That sucks to hear, I currently work in a bank and once in a while have to help out in a situation like this. My aunt got jacked for 20k in an account that was deposit only (for a new car), that shouldn't be possible.

I'm assuming you mean $1000/semester not $1000000/semester right? If it's the former, please tell me the name of the school because I've never heard of tuition that low. Usually I've seen 10k-25k/semester (X4) for say an MBA.

It doesn't matter if it's a debit or credit card. I have a debit and ONLY use it to buy gas, yet I still get screwed. It can happen to anyone, anytime.

Google it, you will see that people can get your information online through auction sites. Your information is posted and people can bid on it or they just hack the system and get it otherwise.

However, I've gotten all my money back. It's a huge pain in the *** but at least I have the option of being reimbursed. If this hasn't happened to you yet, it will. Statistics say it will happen to everyone at least once.

It's called an "exaggeration" and it's used to make a point. The point in question was "I pay an amount incomprehensible to me for tuition." He listed $1000k per semester, which is $1million.

No

My point is that with a credit card, your CASH doesn't get sucked out of your bank account during instances of fraud.

It is MUCH easier to protest a charge on a credit card and get your money back than it is to get your money back from unauthorized charges on your bank card.

I said pay off the credit card to make it clear I don't support going into debt.

This is why I use a credit card for everything. I don't lose actual money if this happens.

Debit card always = FAIL

Credit card = protection under federal law

BIG difference.

I don't carry or use a DC for this very reason. If your ATM card doesn't have a Visa or MC logo on it you can only use it with the PIN # and not online or point of service purchases without your PIN. Ask your bank for an ATM card without the Visa logo and they will give you one of those instead. Safer, but not as safe as a CC.

forgot a comma. $1,000. But yes I was joking about how much tuition has increased to these days. Funny thing is my Masters is costing me less per class than my undergrad did as I went to a private school for undergrad.

I think CC # theft is just the norm these days.

I NEVER use my CC unless it's a self swipe or online (cash at restaurants, hand over type situations, etc.) and my number has been stolen 5+ times.

I started paying for a credit service out of paranoia (credit score, cards/loans opened/closed in your name, etc.) - it's really worth the piece of mind IMO
