Default So I've crossed over, bought the Miata's cousin

So I drove to Omaha, NE from Sioux Falls, SD (about 3 hours) on my day off yesterday to pick up my new edition: 01 Toyota MR2 Spyder. 70K miles 5 speed manual, not too bad of a rig. I have always liked these and could never snag one at a good price, so when I found this one w/ a salvage title and a clueless owner asking $8900 I talked him down to $4300 and drove there the next day. Car is in good shape, I like them with a salvage title because I usually end up replacing just about everything anyway and when I am done I can usually still make alittle money on it. I ordered full suspension struts and springs today as well as wheels and tires. I don't have any plans to turbo her yet, but AutoX here I come. I stayed out of autox last season after selling my Miata and buying my 99 corvette, tires were just a bit too expensive to be eating up, so this car will be perfect. I wanted the Konig britelites in the black w/ machined face, but every place is out and Konig won't have them available until 4-22...so I settled.
here are the wheels I got:
Drag DR-9 custom rims

The last pic is of my Miata I sold at the end of last summer, it was supercharged...gay I know

I love my Britelites

What is the deal with Toyota putting truck shifters in their sports cars? My buddy's celica shifter looks just like that and has like 3ft of throw.

I have always liked the look of the spyder. If only they were cheaper I would buy one.

the biggest thing I didnt and dont like about those cars is that substantial mods for it are sparse and iirc, the stock motor didnt take to kindly to turboing

What was the reason for the salvage?

Salvage title according to the www.nicb.org was due to a collision. I happened back in 06 about 20k miles ago. I looked the car over pretty good and it appears a fender and the hood was replaced, seeing as how the motor is in the back of the car I wasn't too worried about prior damage to it mechanically. On cars that are more rare it has been my experience that a salvage title if repaired properly has little effect on value to the right buyer.

read this article:
2000 Toyota MR2 Spyder User Reviews - MSN Autos,

"The Miata is about as boring and plain as a car claiming to be a sports car can be. If you are a woman, get the Miata, if you are interested in attracting one, get the MR2."

I don't completely agree, and it is sad that everyone who hasn't owned or driven one thinks that if you drive a 2 seater roadster it is either your wife's. gf's car, or you're gay

You have a potential SCCA E-stock winner there. I would gladly give up my miata for one of these. A turbo MR2/MRS would make a serious track weapon mostly because of the weight bias. Its something like 45/55 I believe.
