Is there any other way to go through a hurricane?

Well another way to go through a hurricane is to just die.

it flickered a bit, but not totally out. seems as if the worst of it has passed me already.

again with the nut swinging.

i'd rather be overprepared and underwhelmed than totally unprepared for the worst.

we had no real issue here. power stayed on. trees stayed up. miataturbo.net posters stayed frisky.

Also photoshopped, but funny:

Not photoshopped:

As someone who works in NYC from time to time, I literally cannot imagine getting around in that town, especially inside Manhattan, without the trains.

I broke down and brought a generator home from the shop, just in case. We filled the bathtub, had candles ready, parked cars away from trees, etc etc.

Fortunately for us we didn't lose power once and we were able to catch up on 4-5 episodes of the walking dead. It was windy as **** out between 6:30-8pm, but the roof stayed on and no major damage to our property.

Some of you may remember the pictures I shared last Oct from the **** that hit us and smashed both our cars with one tree. So I've had it happen already and it was nice to be one of the lucky ones this time around.

It's not just the subways. PATH, LIRR, Amtrak, pretty much everything that rides below grade is offline.

We got pwned.

We lost power around 6 PM. We managed through the night with candles, flash lights and a fluorescent light attached to a motorcycle battery. Luckily we have a natural gas stove and boiler so we made dinner and were able to take a hot shower after all the sweaty sex. Thankfully nothing happened to our home, even though at some points I thought the roof was going to fly off, or the cars. There was no flooding on our street but there are parts of my neighborhood that have flooding and a lot of downed trees on cars and houses, especially the ones closer to the bay. Our power company estimates 7 days before power will be restored. Right now we are at my parents since they were unaffected, with my in-laws on the way. Both sets of parents and their kids all sleeping in the same house. Good thing we have a fantastic relationship all around or else it would be awkward.

Hope everyone else is staying safe and dry.

A) I can understand you feeling a little bit smug about this.

B) As a FL guy, I was initially a little smug. Bars are usually open for hurricane parties during Cat 1s.

Then I saw some of the damage done and heard about the NYC hospital losing all power (including backup sources), entire lost neighborhoods to fires, etc. :(

Yea, it sucks. Irene just hit us recently, and...yup it sucked. New York, just as well as New Orleans, cant prepare for everything an eliminate all disasters, both natural and man made. You gotta live life, prepare when you can, and gtfo when you need to.

I had 60-80kph winds last night resulting in my 12' x 20' x 10' tent (2" steel pole construction) that was surrounded on 3 sides trying to hop the 6.5' fence that is at its one end. It was screwed down with 8 big tap cons, they broke after being fine for 3 years.

It got 1 leg over and another 1/2 over before I fixed it and weighed it down with 9 2' x 2' patio stones. It was close to coming down on the miata on the other side of the fence.

That was about the worst thing to happen to anyone I talked to.

I did see a really high number of cars with American plates headed towards the border, convenient vacation time?

"Hey, there's a hurricane coming, do you think I should take down the tent?"

"Nah, don't bother, it's not like hurricanes are known for strong winds or anything!"

lol sorry but is the tent that much of a pain in the *** to take down?

Do people just keep horse-head masks on hand at all times, just in case something large and newsworthy happens in their area?
