Default someone used my cc number in michigan

i hope they catch whoever used it. I have identity protection and they(chase) alerted me about the "fraudulent" charges, refunded my account. this is the first time ive had someone use my number.

- they lady on the phone said it was a swipe so some made a "professional copy" of my card.

Welcome to modern times.

I've "bought" the following over the past 6 years:

- X-Box live
- 3 bottles of wine and a pair of boots in Milan
- A DeWalt chop saw
- 1600 dollars worth of home heating oil (That just goes to show how brazen these thieves can be)

I'm not really sure how they get my CC number as I'm a rather paranoid individual. I pay cash at nearly every restaurant or business where I'd have to forfeit my card to some wage worker. Not sure how it happens, but I've had my CC # stolen 3 times and my debut once (that SUCKED).

Even if you're paranoid about giving your CC out when paying for things, it can still happen. Especially if you save your credit card info at any online retailer that isn't a big-name. Even then, it's not really safe. Look at what happened with people who had their info saved on the PSN...

Ordering a new card is about all you can do.

judging by the way you sound on the phone, I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if you still shopped at Toys R Us.

Had fraudulent charges a couple of times. CC company takes the hit, so I'm not too worried, but still practice common sense. I review charges every couple of weeks or so as well. I only use my debit card at ATMs. Otherwise I never touch the thing. Not willing to risk my checking account.

Person that took mine was quick.

$4000 in online purchases in an hour. (Best Buy and Zappos)

Discover Credit Protect had it shut down, no charges to us...all transferreds to new card disputable, and pursued the case.

did you ever figure out what he or she bought?

some lady out in Texas bought 50 Gateway desktop PCs way back when on my mom's credit card and was stupid enough to have them sent to her home address.

After I talked to the Olive Garden manager(only place we'd used the card in a month despite it being holiday season) and a supervisor at Discover they VERY QUICKLY removed us from the proceedings. I guess they sensed in my voice that if any information on exactly how this happened or who was involved was relayed to me there would be firearms and black plastic body bags involved.

The waitress had our card for a VERY long time. I usually carry cash, but didn't as we'd been out shopping all day and wife asked me not to carry the Taurus that day(despite crazy consumerist crowds). I never have more than $40 cash on me unless I'm packin'.

I made damn sure the manager knew her name and knew exactly what had transpired, and asked if they'd had similar complaints. He paused and said he couldn't comment.

I make it a point to use my American Express card except in emergencies but the last time I went to the titty bar was definitely an emergency. Anyone from South Florida who's been to Tootsies can understand the pressures that place puts on a man. Well, after racking up quite the tab and probably contracting syphilis, I used my AMEX.

The very next day I got a call from AMEX asking me about what they called "suspicious activity" on my account. The male representative asked me to inform him when he'd read a charge that was not made by me then proceeded to read off a list of charges and sure enough, when he read the strip club charge, I could tell by his tone that he was expecting me to say it was the fraudulent charge. When I didn't, he sorta paused for a moment before continuing with the list (I'd filled my buddy's car up with fuel as he was DDing and bought him some **** in the convenience store attached to the station). After I'd said everything was kosher, he asked me again about the charge from Tootsie's Cabaret. I could tell he was smiling so I sorta just sighed and said something to the effect of "dude, you had to have seen this bitch" and he started giggling so I told him I'd invite him the next time. That was a wild night.

Bottom line: AMEX stays on point.

Last time this happened to me I asked the person who called me about it from wells fargo how they get my number. She said it usually comes from a swipe. Someone (probably an employee) logs the CC info and can put it onto a physical new card and sell it to someone. Pretty much a victomless crime at this point.

Even if you do something stupid the bank will refund your charges. My buddy forgot to pull his debit card out of the atm and someone nabbed it and emptied his bank account. He was broke for 2 or 3 days while they investigated/reversed everything but thats the price you pay for being stupid I guess.
