Default sr20det swaps...

I keep seeing this coming up over and over again, and although I admittedly know very little about this motor, I keep seeing people mention that a worked BP ranges from at a minimum being on par with it, or outright spanking it (depending on who's doing the talking).

Outside of miatas and some mopar products, I don't have as much general automotive knowledge as many here. What's the attraction to this motor that keeps making people want to swap it in to a miata?

Insane aftermarket is what's best about these motors. Other then that not worth the effort in my opinion. Yes, it can take a little more power comparing to BP but if you factor in cost of purchasing the motor and labor involved to do the swap - absolutely worthless. For the same money you can get same performance out of BP with less headaches and more support from this forum.

The only motor swap that is worth doing on Miata is V8.

SR20s have a lot of overheating problems too (they can be corrected if you buy the right stuff) but as mentioned above, it's not really worth it.

I totally agree with fae... unfortunately (im mad at him for blue balling me for months now). The swap idea seems cool in the whole "total engine swap" idea, but I dont like the idea of putting an older design into a younger chassis with the potential of more problems before, during and definitely after...

...however I am saving up for a twin turbo 1jz engine for my 91 supra, and thinking about swapping the old 7mgte into my miata.

A stock sr20det with fmic and mbc is generally good for 180kw (230hp) ATW in stock form. that + huge aftermarket is probibly why. They are also cheaper to get than a B6/BP in some places stupid as that sounds. Every tuner can tune them aswell and know them well. For a miata i cant see any point swapping one in though.
