I didn't mean to get this pot of bullshit started again. It was an offhand remark, and I apologize if this degrades into a shitstorm as a result.

 

Probably not, if you just have a basic plan. We have it for the dog and our plan pretty much just covers two checkups per year and vaccines/boosters when needed. I think most of the benefit is the huge savings on his heartworm pills, but the insurance really only covers the routine stuff. Anything beyond that, injuries and whatnot, and we still pay out the ***. Dog had to have an abnormal growth removed from his hind leg a couple months ago. Surgery, post-op checkup, pathology review to make sure it wasn't cancerous, etc and we're over $1000. I could probably have done it myself for free, being that my job entails small animal surgery from time to time and I have access to the tools & anesthesia required, histopathology resources and all of that. But the wife would hear none of it.

Anyway, with minimalist coverage like that there'd be no basis to charge more for an outdoor cat vs indoor. You could probably buy one of those Cadillac Cat Coverage plans with more benefits, but then you have to ask yourself if it's really worth it.

 

I'm going to look into it. Having an outdoor cat presents a lot of potential vet visits. Even simple **** such as catching a cold from one of the other hood cats.

This. I don't understand how some people can't grasp this.

 

Both of our cats are shelter cats. The female is a hog and resembles a football (color and shape). So she is on a controlled feeding schedule. The male is a blue point Siamese, extremely affectionate but we can fill his bowl and he eats what he wants. He is a well built cat, but the female will try to get to his food which she will scarf it down, puke it up, and scarf it down again. So we put his food up high, he can jump a good 4.5" in a single bound. She is lucky to jump 3' with full effort. Our cats NEVER leave our home and are fixed and spayed.
