Did a break job on the Explorer, which has those awesome hub rotors. Packed the bearings with Coastal Hi Temp Synthetic. Less than 2 weeks of gentle driving later, front right wheel sounds like the bearing is going to come apart. Opened it up to discover that the grease now has the viscosity of bubble bath.
Cost me $50 and a bunch of hassle to replace the front right bearing set. Left side grease looked the same but the bearing still seemed ok; I just repacked it. Used mobil1 this time. 2 hours of needless work on a windy 30° day + waste of $50 = major fail. I'm glad there was no further loss, either physical or financial, but it still sucks.
Lesson: Avoid Coastal grease for wheel bearings, even though it's stated right on the can that wheel bearings are the intended application.
