I don't feel so guilty for asking what boost level are you running?
If you going to compare them directly, let's compare it psi for psi.
Stephanie

We can run up to 15PSI on 93 octane or higher non-intercooled. We only need to run 10PSI to make 171 WHP on 91 octane with no timing retard. 10 PSI is also our magic number for CARB. I agree, no reason for you to feel guilty about those numbers, you did the best you could.

I saw that earlier, I'm quivering with anticipation.

mcarp22 04-13-2010 10:41 PM

It's a shocking revelation that doubling the boost adds 30hp. I would not have suspected that at all!

Corky dropped some math on Tom late last night...curious to see if Tom responds today.

Just read Corky's post; im awaiting on the bs response involving the magic of the 5th injector.

E-Cool hugh. I did not know that TBI 305s were such amazing performance monsters.

This technology was also brought to market on other icons of automotive innovation such as the Chevrolet Blazer...which leaves you completely stranded when the single injector fails.

Sparetire 04-14-2010 03:31 PM

GM has had some really great ideas and some bad ones. TBI too me is sort of the result of carb people going to EFI.

"We really dont want to do 6 or 8 of these damned things, they are epensive. Plus we dont have an intake setup for them yet. But we can bolt this POS here onto damn near any 4150 style intake!"

ScottFW 04-14-2010 03:52 PM

My '85 4runner has a 5th injector.

Sparetire 04-14-2010 04:06 PM

Lots of the TRD supercharged Tacomas/4 Runners do too. TRD sells a complete kit.

Savington 04-14-2010 04:09 PM

Tom bragging about making 170whp at 10psi makes me lol so hard. I really want to comment on how the 1.6 Rotrex prototype is making like ~155-160whp at 5-6psi.

Braineack 04-14-2010 04:18 PM

my 1.6L is making 165rwhp (dyno dynamics) at 9psi, on a $175 turboz.

Yeah, but with all that turbo lag, you're missing out on the low-end torque and instant throttle response superchargers provide.

Braineack 04-14-2010 04:25 PM

oh well.

Sparetire 04-14-2010 04:34 PM

Is anyone else interested in seeing a few more setups with a coldside 45 or 62 and a 3071? Puley the blower for about 8 psi and watch the 3071 act like a 2560. I wonder if the blower would become a restriction? On one hand I doubt it considering that with a PD blower it will just get better filling on the inlet side, but I am not sure.

Funny stuff on blowers lately. I saw a traditional centrifugal setup for a bit more $ than a Rotrex kit off Kraftwerks. They claimed 205 crank HP while making 165WHP, and they ran 10 psi to get it as well IIRC. If these cars have an 18% driveline loss I will be VERY surprised. My guess is more like 12% with a Torsen.

18psi 04-14-2010 06:09 PM

HOLY SHIT 3 and a half grand for 170whp??!!! FUCKKKKKK where do I sign up for this phenomenal piece of technology

j_man 04-14-2010 07:59 PM

Mmmmmmmm. Eaton + GT3076R on a 1.8L Toyota engine (the blue lines) over 400 whp and look at that torque curve.
The yellow line same setup, but just a GT3076R and running a bit higher pressure IIRC

http://www.monkeytuner.com/forum/dow...5197&mode=view

Sparetire 04-14-2010 08:07 PM

Darn, pic no worky.

And I missed that 3.5K price for that 170WHP and 250+ F IATs. When that will get you a good turbo kit or a Rotrex. Wow.

Yah, its pretty impressive, even with the retarded monkey that tuned it.
Now imagine if someone competent put a good dyno tune on it.

cueball1 04-15-2010 04:11 PM

I personally know two people with motors destroyed with the FFS system, not people I've heard of but people I've met. For those keeping score that's two out of three. Not great odds on a system that's advertised as plug and play and dead reliable.

Braineack 04-15-2010 04:15 PM

i know 15 of you idiots that have blown turbo motors...

Endless Rube Goldberg band-aids does not a system make, imo.

hustler 04-15-2010 05:32 PM

lol@rubegoldberg comment

Savington 04-15-2010 05:55 PM

Should we discuss:
1. How they all swear by "dumb" knock boxes that don't detect detonation except where you tune them to detect it

2. How their customers think that forged pistons and stock rods are the correct way to build motors because "all i need is a little detonation resistance" (ironically the first intelligent thing they've ever said)

I'm pretty much dumbfounded that people are running 200+whp on superchargers with "5th-injectors" and still have running vehicles. I know Tanner is doing this without issue but that defies logic for my pea-sized brain.

If its on a 1.8, I'm not that surprised. I've seen some pretty ghetto shit hold together for periods of time that defied logic and physics. The 5th injector, while it is a shitty bandaid, isn't as wrong as say....an AFC.

I would still be curious what the IATs were instead of the EGTs since only one of the pair induces the spontaneous fracture of ringlands.

I am running larger injectors, 315cc/min, as well as the 5th injector as supplemental fuel. Not the most ideal setup, but it works.

Also ask which FFS kit uses 315cc injectors, and 4gph of water injection for me.

If he's running the water injectors at 200psi rather than the 100psi that their 2gph rating was made at, he'd be getting closer to 8gph overall, no?

And if I recall the thread here correctly Hustler stomped his ass on the straights... and did major suspension/alignment corrections shortly after.
