oh i'll defend cali.
incidentally CARB is hardly something to pick on. I have more strict biennial inspections in DC and will soon in VA. There's no visual though, but it's still a pain in my ***. It's easier to cheat in CA.
and gun laws there? Last i heard you can own them. Can't have guns in DC...
plus they have awesome weather. oceans and skiing are near by. awesome scenery. best wines in the country. lots of locally grown food. diverse culture. etc. etc.
oh and the reason for all the immigrants in california? it's just a nice place to be.

Yeah, but CARB makes all those little BS rules/laws that CHP gets to use and abuse. Sure it's easy to cheat an actual inspection... but CA residents have to actually worry about the time in between.
Never said that state itself is bad (weather, scenery), but some of the people and government is what had given me a bad impression.

in the 30 yrs I lived there (15 driving), not once have I had a cop hassle me for anything mod related. I never ran a front license plate (required) and I'd been pulled over many times for speeding or four wheel drifting across several lanes of traffic (no ticket) and only had one speeding ticket and one (debatable--roommate was drunk and screaming at cops) "unsafe start" ticket.
the truth is if you're not an *******, they aren't ********.

I agree though. I've had my fair share of run-ins with cops here and most of the time if you are cool and admit to being stupid, they'll be more personable. Hell, last time i got pulled over, i bs'd with the cop about racing (at the track) and he cut the ticket down to a point that is was so minimal it wouldnt be reported to the DMVR.

Oceans that are too cold to enjoy without a wet suit. Cold current vs warm current in the Gulf. I tried going swimming in Cali, but, ****, the water was too damn cold!!!
Not another "skiing, swimming, and beach within an hour of each other" crap excuse. That covers the whole West coast, and Hawaii. I would rather goto Hawaii.
Awesome scenery? Huh? I was stationed in Seattle for almost 3yrs. After 2 wks I wished they would bulldoze the mountains. My ex-GF lived on the west coast her whole life, had only been to Oregon, Cali, and Washington her whole life. I brought her home to Dallas for a week, her response...
"HOLY ****...you can see FOREVER! Now I see why you don't care for the mountains. This is ******* AWESOME!!"
Wine...yes, you don't have the most whiney MFs of any state.
Lots of locally grown foods...isn't that a way to describe just about ANYWHERE in the US?
Diverse culture?? Right. I can find the same diversity in ANY large metro area. Example: Euless, TX has the largest population in the WORLD of Tongans anywhere outside the island of Tonga.
The only reason so many illegals are in Cali is cause there are large population areas right on the border for them to hide in. If Phoenix were on the Mexican border, there would be alot more illegals there, too.

I'm pretty sure all the illegals come here to mow. no joke, there have been documented billboards for Manassas, VA (joke of the area) in Mexico for a great place to "work" [read: stuff hundreds in one house].
In my area, there's north and south arlington. the divider line being route 50. Property values are significantly less on the south side of 50. the same two houses across 50 would have a huge jump in price. Drive through south arlington and you can easily come to the conclusion as of why for yourself. Hint, large number of houses with chain link fences, 80s maroon camarys with failed inspections, and food "markets."

The weather is nice? I LOVE wearing winter clothes in the morning, and shorts in the afternoon, unless you live near the coast (SF) then it's long sleeve shirts and pants all day. That is one of the things I remember from going there for family vacation every summer...scraping ice off the windshields before we left for Yosemite. WTF!
