My favs are "Oh man, why didn't you put in a Supercharger?"
and "Ya but a Turbo only kicks in once!"

Technical Schmech-nical. A turbo's a turbo and a supercharger's a big turd. :giggle:

I've gotten the "you should put in a supercharger" comments too.

My favorite was someone talking about my setup with someone else. Explained in detail how the turbo manifold was equal length to maximize torque.... Its the biggest POS log ever to be posted here....

Also if reference to the same mani "Where'd you buy that?" Really? You looked at that POS and thought it was manufactured that way?!?

A guy I used to work with had a late 70s Vette. He thought it was around 1900 lbs because of the GVWR sticker. He refused to believe me when I told it him it was probably more like 3000 lbs.

Same job, different retard with a late 70s Vette, wanted to put twin turbos and a supercharger on his ride. If I remember right he took the carb. and intake manifold off for whatever reason and it never did run again. He sold it non running a couple of years later for a few hundred bucks. I won't mention the fine grit sandpaper buff job he attempted on the paint job.

Ever see those guys on youtube with early 70s hotrods with two superchargers stacked on top of each other? I find this to be a sad display of grown men with lots of money literally ricing out an otherwise awesome car.

technicly all turbos are "twin turbo" since there are 2 turbines that make up one unit

technically < conventionally

go be an ---- retentive snob somewhere else.

I told one of my ex-gf's cousin that I plan on turbocharging my car, so he laughed and then asked me "where are you gonna fit that??". I then showed him the engine bay and he told me I would have to move the engine because it wasnt transversal like a honda. I had a blank stare then this happened :crx:

Well everybody knows that rwd is is heavier and is therefore just for ricers and noobs.

the_man 07-07-2009 01:09 PM

I once accepted the "fact" that FWD was better than RWD in the rain/snow/whatever. Weight over the drive wheels and all that. Then, I actually drove some FWD cars in the rain/snow/whatever after driving pretty much only RWD for a couple years. Holy crap, FWD blows in every possible way. Especially modern cars, as you try to take off, the rear suspension compresses and all the weight that WAS over the drive wheels suddenly transfers off of them and away you don't go. Stupid.

As far as questions I've seen lately, anything that starts with some variation of "I always top off my [insert fluid here], but [insert issue here] irritates me to no end. Typically this is a coolant leak, which is ignored, and then results in catastrophic failure at some point when whatever hose, fitting, connection or section of the cooling system that was slowly leaking finally gives way completely. I'm convinced the reason for this ignorance is the fact that shops say they "top off your fluids" when they do an oil change, pretty much universally, now. For some reason people think it's "normal" to lose fluids. It's not normal. It indicates a problem, which should be identified and corrected. Ugh.

Oh btw... that same guy also told me my car sucked because it wasnt V-TECH :hustler:. My blank stare was followed with this

I've had the "so where's the button to activate the turbo?" and the same person point at the intake manifold and ask if that was a turbo...both of these from another miata owner.

I had a guy at a gas station once ask me if the IC was real or for looks. I told him it was real as he was getting down on the ground to check for himself.

Today someone asked me if I "put in new heads" while he was standing in front of the motor looking right at it.

Some people are fucking clueless. I usually try and have educated conversations with people when it comes to cars. But sometimes the shit people blab about is more fun to listen to than to correct them.
