Besides, I just picked a new hardtop up from a guy on the forum for $650.
Whoa that's scary it doesn't look like it matches the car it's on.
My friend had a Ducati 749 stolen, and went to see the remains of it at an apartment after the police identified the VIN on some ebay parts and caught the 17 year old punk who was parting it out. I don't know if that or identifying a dead family member would be worse. Good luck in your search Hustler.

OTOH, if it were the one, at least there's a plate in one of the pics!
Damn, I just saw this thread somehow. I thought it was the whole car at first, but just a hardtop can be replaced. If you do manage to get a hold of the guy, give him some pain for me. A thief is the lowest scum on earth.
What kind of thief steals a Miata hard top anyway? Its not really a pawn shop item, or a street corner item. I don't think he can sell it easy enough for a $20 hit of meth.

I'd also like to ad that I made a claim on my insurance and now I've been hit with a fraud investigation. This is fantastic!!!
That's awesome... you are out of town and somehow managed to steal your own hardtop, while it was raining. That's just genius. I'm going to steal my steering wheel while on course at the local SCCA next weekend. That'll teach the insurance company a thing or two!

Probably because I just added a hardtop to the policy on my other miata recently. I don't blame them of course, its not hard to provide a multitude of shots with the green hardtop...and the ugly car with a HT with a headliner, defroster, and the wrong color.

My new car has a hardtop and roll bar combination that virtually makes it impossible to remove the hard top. So I started looking for those low profile side latches and came across the harddog latches at $150 plus s/h.

Those latches looked very "mcmaster" to me and sure enough I found 'em at just over $5 each in galvanized.

But listed with these I also found the "lockable" version at $15 each for galvanized.

Granted that's three times the cost, but it appears to be a more robust design. I think that'd provide some deterrent for hard top theft. Enough that I'm willing to make some and replace the OE pieces. There's some other latches that would work too- but not as low profile: McMaster-Carr
