Is there anything equal to or greater than a Miata?
In terms of :
cost drivabliity fun boost. All of that summed up together. Is there a car out there that can beat the miata? I'm not sure if I'm making sense as I just accidentally slept from noon to dinner. |

I have heard great things about MR2 turbos aswell.
|
MR2 Turbo.
Starquest. 944 Turbo. |
ok ok cool but are they all equal to or better than a Miata of same year?
Also provide reasons for. Show your work. |
They are small, fun, and handle well. What other work could you show?
|
I think the mr2 would be the closest. The stock turbo engine puts out 200 hp at the flywheel. The car weighs about 2500 lbs and the stock internals are good for over 400whp IIRC. The interior is a bit more cramped then a miata and luggage space is complete garbage and that is relative to a miata not a normal sized car. Toyota reliability and you can find good examples for fairly cheap.
|
The S2000 is up there, but they made only about 1/10 as many as the NA/NB Miatas, they MSRP'd a decent bit higher, and they're not quite old enough yet.
I don't think anything will hit the same target anytime soon, and honestly it looks like even Miatas, while not getting scarce, aren't as cheap and plentiful as they used to be when shopping for a good base car to start your modding with. If you have less than $5K, can handle 2 seats, lightweight and handling prowess are priority, and you want something easy to mod with lots of info out there, then the Miata is the answer. |
Ryan gets an A+
Gospeed as well. |
And you get a F.

Its a troll thread because its on par with asking: " whats better, supercharger or turbo? ". Vague, retarded, and will do nothing but stirr up drama.
You put no effort into creating a worthwhile topic, just randomly threw out a bullsh*t question and telling others to "show your work". Really? Feel free to prove me wrong. But despite my gut feeling, I'll give you an opinion: NO If there was we'd be driving it. Nothing is as common, as cheap, as easy to maintain, modify, etc etc etc. There are tons of BETTER cars, but they're either not as common, more expensive, not as easy to mod, etc etc etc. So they don't all fit our criteria of: common/cheap/easy/fun *edit: maybe a small handfull of cars that are almost on par....but I can't think of any right now EXACTLY like it. |
Let me put it this way:
If someone just walked up to me and gave me a Ferrari, I'd sell it right away and buy a Miata. (Or, I'd have to sell the said Ferrari in June or January, whichever comes first, when taxes on that car are due. FYI, taxes on the Miata are in the $170 range, with about $10K for the Ferrari.) |
You pay yearly tax on your cars?? I don't understand. That's like somebody saying "you may buy a refrigerator to keep you food cold, but you'll have to pay me $35 a year because YOU OWN IT."
What kind of $hit is that? |
You dont like in Turkey, you're allowed to own property.

As for Godless... I'd probably do the same, I'm much too tall for them anyways. (not that i've got a lot of head room in my miata ) |
If s2000's weren't 2x as expensive as miatas, and weren't 2x more expensive to modify (boost), I'd be driving one right now. Guarranteed

What kind of $hit is that? But yeah, a Ferrarri wouldn't be a lot of fun. I'd worry about driving it, let alone driving it hard. And, to OP, there really isn't anything comparable to the Miata, especially when it comes to cost of maintenance and mods/bang for buck. It's a side-effect of being the world's most popular sports car, and a darn good racer at that. Looking forward to seeing the ND. |

What kind of $hit is that? So, yes, you pay for a car, and then you pay for the privilege of owning it for the rest of your ownership of that vehicle. And the incentive for driving? $10 (or more) a gallon for gasoline. Ben Franklin fits in my gas tank, with room to spare. |
I own my house and I pay yearly property tax. The school tax portion is the biggest one, about 200% more than my property tax, which is a story for another time. My car on the other hand...that's $36 a year for registration. Gasoline in my car to me is the same thing as paying an electric bill for my house. I don't generate the electricity, and I also don't refine my own gasoline, so I have no gripe about paying for it (except for the fact that it is a bit pricy, but oh well).
It just blows my mind that you can posses something and somebody else can say "hey, I know that belongs to you, but you still have to pay me a percentage every year just because you have it. |
Hakan, That sucks...we have to pay a tax when ownership of the vehicle changes hands...other than that one time tax, it's just a registration fee. In my state it's $36 a year for cars.

I'd put the FB rx7 in this list. Parts are stupid cheap, and if you can get past the "wtf rotary?" there is nothing hard/no surprises.
the difference there is that there are a lot of 400-500rwhp rx7's mucking about, but they are not cars that belong to gifted tuners... Enter bad reputation for blowing up... |
|
It's missing an ls1.

I know fwd is inferior but integra/rsx has to get honorable mention for price, weight, available mods, reliability. They do show up at track days often.
And I'm reminded of a car magazine article comparing the Solstice to the NC when it came out. The handling of the Pontiac was noted by one tester's memo as "dump truck". |
