in what, 20 yrs or so? with 1080p, you're basically eyeball limited at more than a 2:1 screen diagonal to viewing distance ratio. and that's with at least perfect vision. Try it at your desk. if you have a 19" monitor, sit back more than 38" and see if you can see a difference between the left and right sides of this nice image i made.


the next step is not higher resolution, but more area at the same resolution a la IMAX. but then you're approaching CAVE systems.

The engadget article has misleading quote. The Netflix survey is about how integration of Xbox Live with their current PC based system might work. It never mentions watching on PS/3.
This doesn't mean no Netflix for the PS/3 - just that the survey mentioned is about Xbox 360 and the real quote doesn't have that PS/3 part

Two months ago a friend who works at NFM told me Toshiba was going to buy back all HD-DVD players from NFM's customers. Makes me wonder if the millions of HD-DVD movies will be reimbursed? Kinda funny I always figured Sony would be the one to fail yet again in the race for the format, but this time Toshiba horded their technology and Sony shared the development with the masses of manufactures. I site as examples of Sony failure: BetaMax, LaserDisc, MiniDisc, and Super Audio CD to name a few... Looks like they finally learned their lesson? "Its a Phony!"

Edit: On a personal side note, I believe any further development in optical media is useless and should be stopped immediatly. With the advent of a possible 8 layer bluray disc, scratch that thing with a freakin subatomic particle and your data is gone.. I think solid state media (Ie, Crapples new notebook with no physical mechanical disk...) is the way to the future. I said back in the mid 90s with the "WORM" drive the sealed cartridge optical disk would have been the way to go with video and game rentals anyway. Something you couldn't open or touch the physical disc... Looks like we'll have to wait and see!

it is a goner now though. maybe it got pulled recently (like a day or two ago - it was still up and running on the weekend and has been there for few weeks). let me check if I can find how the question about the streaming looked like

 

this was the last real question in the survey - the only one mentioning video on consoles. the following page was the last one and it was about the age, marital status, income, etc. that was the most recent version of the survey I've seen. maybe the one about the PS3 has been something else older (or different)

 

you mean the $999 option. base model comes with a normal hard drive.
