Default Transfer music to my new ipod help!

All my research says I need to download some 3rd party software to make it happen. WTF? I just want to plug both of them into the same computer and hit "transfer"... how?

BTW... I've had pizza for 4 meals in a row now and I don't recommend it.

Just plug it in and hit sync. You can have up to 5 devices IIRC synced to one itunes library.

Reread your post again. You should transfer all your musics to itunes first, then sync your new device to that library.

I gave my old beat up ipod to a friend and just opened up the new one I had laying around yesterday. I had no problems putting my music on it, no 3rd party software or anything like that.

Most people probably just sync their entire library, but I have so much music, lots of **** I don't even care for, so I just move everything manually.

I hate itunes, I wish there was a way I could just drag and drop music into my iphone.

All my music is on itunes. I have bought a bunch of music through itunes that is always in the "purchased" playlist... of those, I've farmed them out to other playlists, but they always stay in the "purchased" as well. I also have a few external hardrives full of music and I've taken songs from those and added them to itunes.

I always manually sync after I've made changes.

A bit off the OP's topic...but I think he's been taken care of.

As an alternative to iTunes, I use Rockbox on my 3rd gen iPod. A little quirky at first, but after a day no problem. It converts it to an external drive configuration, but with a decent UI. You can drag/drop to the iPod with this software, it has a ton of extra features (EQ for example), and the most important feature for me is that it plays lossless files such as flac and shn. It also supports AAC's if you've already dumped a bunch of stuff into iTunes, and about 25 other audio formats. It runs parallel to the firmware, so you can restart in iTunes mode if you prefer (but the music imported for Rockbox does not show up).

Have you actually tried syncing the new one with iTunes yet?

Have not bought it yet... making sure I'll have no issues first.
After several years of use, it's pretty beat up and starting to have issues connecting to certain devices. I've cleaned the contacts but I think it's just getting old... plus I'd like a new one anyways.

So I can take any ipod, log onto my account, and install every song in my itunes onto any ipod?

What if I buy a used ipod that has music on it already... will syncing to my account delete all the other music and replace it with my stuff?

Y8's... I totally agree... but try googling this **** and see what you can come up with. If you google anything about "how can I do this with my ipod?"... there are zero hits to the Apple site. It's like they're trying to keep it a secret from me how to work their product.

Yes, simple as that. But you're limited to 5 I think.

If you get a used one, it'll delete everything on the ipod to sync.

I actually crashed a friends Macbook repeatedly by trying to move music from his itunes to my ipod without syncing. Uncrashable... HAH!

All right... apparently I was making too big a deal about it. I'm searching Craigslist now... maybe can find a 5th gen somebody wants to unload.

So, if I use itunes to delete everything off an ipod, does it "remove" it from my total of 5. I can imagine over the years, you'd have more than 5 i-things total.

Yah... and I can't believe I'm actually asking this ****. I've put off getting an Iphone for a few years now, and have to wait a few more months until there are at least a few more 4G phone offerings. Samsung has a new one coming out late August... the Epic4G I think. I almost bought an Evo the other day, but the Sprint store was out.

I've never run into iTunes limiting the number of playback devices an account can support, only the number of computers that can be associated with that account. Every time I connect a my shuffle, for example, to my home computer, I'm asked if I want to erase and sync with that computer. If I do, I get asked the same thing when I plug it back into my laptop. Both computers are on the same iTunes account, though.

In order to drop a computer from the account, I have to log into iTunes on that specific computer. Otherwise, you can only drop all of them at once (not cherry pick).

A single ipod can only sync to one machine running iTunes at any time.
Multiple ipods can sync to the same machine.

The 5 authorizations refer only to the computer running itunes, not the iPods.

When you get the new ipod just sync away.

...and this is why I own a Cowon D2+. I ******* HATE HATE HATE iTunes. I especially love how you can't play music from an artist or an album based upon bullshit settings. I also really like how my iphone is a raging piece of ****.

So I shouldn't load itunes onto every computer that I have... just my home desktop maybe? And I shouldn't log onto my itunes account from a buddies computer?

I'm not one of those douchebags that has their music on them 24/7. On a strong month, I might log on every 2 months or so and spend like $20-$30. I use it in the gym, otherwise it stays in the car.

I'm finding a ****-ton of used ipods on CL, so I'll probably get a used 8gb 4th gen for like $50.

if you enable disk support, you can drag all the music off an old ipod into a folder and then import that folder into itunes and revel in free music. nevermind that it's all named jibberish because the IDV3 tags will solve that upon importing.

I got a refurb 30gb 5th gen off ebay for $99 with free shipping. It was the deal of the day awhile back, so I'm not sure you'll be able to find it for that same price, but I would def check around on there.

I don't understand? I don't have any problems with dragging music to my 4GB Sandisk Sansa like it's a portable thumbdrive. I can also get music/files onto the 8GB SD Micro card just like using a card reader, then plug the device into someone else's computer and do all the same stuff. I'm not limited to how many computers I can connect my MP3 Player to, nor am I limited to how many MP3 players I can drag my media collection to. I think I know what you're doing wrong:

Flip over your MP3 player.
Ensure it DOES NOT have an icon on the back which resembles a fruit.
If it does, then you are a fruit. Take it back to the store, and get a proper media player made by a company that doesn't pretend to have a monopoly on the MP3 player market. Likely it will be about 1/2 the price for the exact same features, it will be smaller, and the battery (which will last longer) will be covered by something called a 'manufacturers warranty'.
Delete Firefox from your computer, because if you think iPods are the ****, then you likely also think that Firefox is the ****, and you are wrong in both cases; from now on, please think for yourself - peer pressure will screw you in the eyeballs every time.
