"upgraded" from a BMW to a GM car
we have 2 of that generation B7's at work and they are maintenance pigs; window screens that don't retract, seat motors fail, stuff like that. If there's any way you can get some extended warranty, do it.Last warranty bill was over $80k, but that included a new Alpina engine. Some bits of supercharger debris was missed when the first supercharger exploded a year ago or so and eventually made it into the engine.
I just asked him, the window shades stopped working again last week. haha.

I'm sure you know some of this pain if you had yours long enough. The only thing you need to watch for on the Caddy is wheel hop and blowing the rear end up, but I think they fixed it up pretty well by 2006.

I still can't believe this just happened. It feels surreal. My buddy and I traded. I now have his 2006 750i. After a quick test drive and a handshake we drove each other's cars home.
The slightly less short version: Caddy had an engine vibration. I had its bad flywheel and crank pulley balancer replaced, and it still vibrated. Mechanic said it probably had poor balance from the factory, or maybe the cold piston slapping sound means there's a piston skirt on the bottom of the oil pan. I didn't want to drive it that way nor pay big bux to rebuild the motor. I was picking it up from the shop and discussing dumping it while paying for the work. My buddy Mike who was there had earlier told our mechanic buddy that *he* doesn't mind the vibration and that it's such a beautiful kickass car he'd even trade his 750i for it. Somehow mechanic gets Mike to keep his word and we shook on it, and I drove his 750i home. Just like that.
Impressions on the 750i:
- the luxe is unreal. The only thing missing is some whiskey, a cigar, and a *******
- iDrive is obtuse... I'm stuck listening to bad FM sound
- 360 hp is pretty good for a car this heavy
- I keep squirting the windshield whenever I want to shift into 'D' (the wiper control stalk is just below the tranny selector stalk)
- the active anti roll bars work great - very little body roll despite relatively soft suspension - all cars should have them
- the auto tranny is excellent despite the slushbox
- it refuses to let you hang the tail out and burn rubber - I don't know how to make iDrive turn the traction control off
- the rear deck is a mile high and the rear trunk a mile long. Backing up you absolutely have to rely on the rear "you're about to hit the car behind you" sensors
- it has a ton of buttons and levers and features half of which I haven't figured out yet
- I just had the car detailed but forgot to take pics
So now I'm a former LS2 owner and serial BMW *****.

My plan is to drive this thing for not very long and then sell it at the slightest hint of trouble.
My original plan (when I got the CTS-V) was to get a 335i because twin turbo.
Maybe if this 750 lasts long enough the 2011 335is with twin-clutch will be within my budget.
Or hell maybe an STi because AWD.

I also was gonna get the 335i, but I'd rather have a 5 series sized car and I also am so tired of buying used BMWs. My wife has a 2004 330i ZHP that has been pretty good to us. I had to refresh the suspension and brakes at 80k, but that's about it so far.
I ended up buy a Buick Regal GS with the six speed manual. Peg leg FWD, but with the tune I installed it gets up and goes (300hp 350lb/ft) and it was $31500 new after much negotiation.
It works out better for the family. Fits a baby seat in the back easier than the 3 series. Obviously a compromise car. I'd much rather have a 2007+ CTS-V, but I didn't want to shell out $45k for a used one.

What happened to your 540i?
Slightly related cause Subaru and V8's are mentoned in this thread. I finished my lunch early last Friday so a threw a couple block CAD models on top of one another. ~10.150" needed in front of the EJ25 crank snout to fit a SBF. LS is slightly shorter front to back but taller.

Don't take this as a personal attack, but... why? I mean, why not just buy a car that you intend to keep for a while, rather than deliberately buying a car that you intend to get rid of?
Admittedly, I did exactly that a few years ago when I bought the Aluminum Falcon, but I only paid $800 for that car (and, ironically, wound up keeping it for quite a while.)

LOL. I'm trying to see if I can just dump the car now before transferring it to my name and paying the odious CA used-car tax on it, and getting the 335i now. Or an EVO X. Without somehow offending my buddy lol.
