Vacuum Cleaners
 

I need to buy a new vacuum cleaner for my apartment. It's not going to live as tormented of a life as my high school shopvac lived, but I'm still going to need it to be able to suck up everything from popcorn seeds to my pubic trimmings.

I'm sure Joe Perez is going to chime in with some Star Trek-inspired hover cleaner that he made in his garage with prison-tech tools but I'm just looking for something basic that I won't have to clean out every week.

What do you have? How do you feel about it?

Kenmore progressive intelliclean bag. I hate bagless vacs personally, I'd rather change a cheap bag every few than get the face full of dust emptying the canister. Heavy cleaner that has it's own motor for the brush that shuts off automatically when you lock it upright. 3 speed suck motor that you can control manually or automatically with the intelliclean button. Has sensors that tell you when your shit's clean. Works insanely well on animal hair.

I had to reengineer the limit switch that turns off the brush motor but that was assembly error in chingdong and realtively simple to fix.

I've got a Dyson and like it so far. It's got great suction, easy to clean, washable filters, the little ball thing it rolls around on that holds the motor is actually really handy for corners, sucks dog hair up well, and after joking around with it sucking on cheeks I'm terrified to put my dick in it. Still miss the old Kirby's. Those things will suck the nails out of the walls.

I wanted to buy an oreck; we have one at work and Paul had one when he was my roommate, worked well enough and is lightweight. Seems like a piece that's "built like they used to be", i.e. no redoing internal electronics. But consumer reports never rates them high unlike my kenmore-bitch. The inlaws have a Dyson; I hate that spokes person so I'll never own one. Their impellers do look like plastic turbo compressors however.

i got my oreck from my dad for free...so it's ok if the ratings aren't as high.

Went I first got mine to replace my eureka, i vacuumed with the eureka, then dyson. dyson was full afterwards where the eureka had diddly in the bin.

No, the only vacuum cleaner I own is my big ole' shop-vac: the original bagless vacuum cleaner.

I bought a Miele white pearl for my wife. It uses bags, but has been going strong for well over a dozen (14?) years. One of the first hepa rated vacs, we had to get it because of my wife's alergies.

I did have to repair it once, replacing a bearing. Cost me more to ship it than the bearing itself cost. Very well built.

My parents bought a Kirby. My question is why would somebody ever spend almost a grand (I think) on a vacuum cleaner? :facepalm:

Man, I could buy whatever the latest rage is but the boring Eureka Bravo from Walmart for $69 has been getting it done with two labs in the house for several years. It is a bagless which my wife loves. Zero dust after emptying.

The salesman came over and sucked my dick for like 8 hours.
After knocking the price down to 800 with every bell/whistle included we bought it.

Probably don't need half the shit it offers, but it is a damn decent vacuum. And will last for at least 10-15 years minimum. In retrospect it was a shitty purchase though, lol.

I'm with the Dyson crowd, ours works great. The best thing is it's a sealed system. Don't know how they do it, but it only sucks air in from the top of the handle, it doesn't blow it out like other vacuums, blowing dust around. That being said, the main issue with non-sealed systems is non-carpeted floors, when it can easily blow the dust around before it vacuums it up. My girlfriend and I have still found it easier to sweep it into a pile and vacuum it up with the handle, or sweep it into the carpet and pick it up there.

We have a 100lb chocolate lab, and cream colored carpets. We vacuum a lot.
