those hood pins are just there for looks. the lower part is not bolted into the engine bay.

Yes it is, I circled it in the picture right above your post....or are we talking about a different "lower part"

i see that now but is that far enough back? seems to be 6+ inches back from the headlight on the hood. that pin looks closer.
