look up what the EU Focus ST currently makes. Ecoboost baby. Ford knows how to make a motor and put tons of technology into their crap. It is said to be about 20% better than that. however, it's the same motor as the 2.0T edge which hsa been rated at: 21 mpg city, 30 mpg highway and 24 mpg combined.
But this is why I'm really mad at ford for not releasing any infomation on the car, it's due to be out in Aug. But it has direct injection, I'm assuming it has VVT on both cams, apparently it has a "more boost" button, I just wanna see all the specs.
The people who've test driven it on track says it handles wonderfully for a fwd car, and it performs fairly well due to the suspesion, sway bar sizing and the LSD up front.

I know the v6 ecoboost motors are awesome, and I'm sure they can put together something very good (look at the ms3 for example) and twin vvt and DI = aweSumZ
But I don't really pay attention to numbers til the car is actually out and whatnot. We tend to always get watered down ugly duckling versions of everything they make for EU

pretty much. that's why I would never preorder one. But I will be considering it when i buy a new DD. Problem is, they will be over sticker and I wont find a used one for a good price. Honestly, I keep just going back to a cheap v70r.

Not sure if I posted this here or not, but Arsenal took delivery of one and had it out at PBIR (Palm Beach formerly Moroso) and was less than a second under the Spec Miata lap record and within two seconds of a modified S2000. The only changes to the car were some Hawk Blue pads and 245 Michelin PSS tires.

Speaking of ecoboost, my Mustang is in the shop right now (dont ask), so they hgave me a brand new Ford Escape, only has 160 miles on it, to drive. It has the 2.0L turbo engine with ~240hp.
For being an SUV with a slushbox, the thing is surprisingly not a dog. Its very torquey and responsive, it even torque steers a bit which keeps it interesting.
That little engine could have easily replaced the 4.0L V6 in the old mustang, and I can image it would be awesome in a hot hatch like the focus or fiesta.
I think Ill pop the hood and take a few pics. I should be able to find out some details like if it has dual-vvt, etc.

Not sure if serious.
Anyway,
2.0L EcoBoost photos:
Nice intake manifold design.
Brain, as you suspected, VVT on both cams.
The intake has metal shielding all over it. Im not really sure why. Its pre-turbo, and above it is the cars cowl, so Im not sure what its shielding from... maybe its acting as a heatsink?
Another mystery. Inlet from the front of the car splits into 2 paths of different size,m both seem to go into the airbox.
Took a look under the car hoping to see the turbo and downpipe but couldnt see ----, so I took a quick photo of the exhausts.
Then Tiger came to visit me.

LOL
That's the only scion I care about. I don't know if you ladies have seen one (in person) sat in, or drove one, but I'm a fan.
And you just wait til the next scoob 2 Liter comes out: direct injection, dual avcs, possibly twin scroll, and I BET it will damn near drop right into these little things. The IS300 trans they come with should be able to handle it too. Win win win

I'll wait till I can buy one from the factory. I don't have parents that will buy me a brand new car so I can spend all the money I make at petsmart after school on destroying a brand new car with aftermarket parts for the first time.

Too bad Ecoboost = is turning out to be not so Eco.
Has anyone beaten or matched the EPA rating of any vehicle with an ecoboost motor in it?
All I've heard is that in actual daily use, people are getting well below the EPA combined ratings. Whether it be in an escape, F150, v6, i4, etc. etc.
Heck, even in Grand AM the Focus STR (with Ecobewzt) apparently gets the worst fuel economy of all the cars in the ST class (well maybe not as bad as our V6 Accord...lolz). The announcers mentioned this during the Watkins Glen race that was on TV Saturday, as a shot of the car was shown with all of the Ecoboost branding on full display. I loved ze irony
