I never had mine jam, but I can say this...sometimes it misses a reload. Like I mean, I'll fire off like 3 rounds and the slide will close and miss loading the 4th round, or so. Then I have to recock it, but then it's good to go. Otherwise I like it. I was cheap, shoots the cheapest ammo ever, and is loud. Not too bad on accuarcy either.

I've been seriously looking at that little Ruger. Co-worker just got one for ankle carry and I it looks like a great little package for a back-up gun. Seems to have better fit/finish than Keltec products. Mind you I've never shot either, just handled them.

My usual off-duty carry is a XD40sc. Sometimes the 4" XD45. Both XD's are carried in Milt Sparks holster and a good belt designed to carry a gun. 99% of the time I can conceal easily with a full sized or compact gun.

I have an AR-15. Blue label (match grade), competition model, bought the day they passed that retarded "assault weapon" ban. Still new in the box. I think I paid about $1800 for it way back then. If you have the license, you can get parts to convert it to full or burst auto.

Actually, you can get the parts either way, but if you put them on the rifle, the ATF is likely to make your life hell.

If you are seriously interested, make me an offer.

WOW.... As a Canadian I find this thread shocking... I can't even get my pistol permit, never mind carry one. I've had my rifle and shotgun license for years.

we are allowed concealed carry with permit. in my state, the permit entails an application and background check to make sure you are sane and not a felon. oh, and of course, a fee.

no permits needed to own any weapons. only to carry concealed pistols.

OK, I must be some kind of freak. I would highly recommend dumping the tiny semi auto's! Get a light framed 5 shot .38! When it comes to real world self defence, reliable is everything. Off duty cops I know, who carry pocket guns, really like small frame, light, wheel guns in .38 - In the real world if you ever use your weapon it's likely to be from 0 to 8 feet away. You point at center mass and unload. The safety and reliability of revolvers are outstanding. Boring as hell. Not cool at all. But effective.

Gotta have a semi? I'd look for a good used Colt Mustang. My dad carries one. It is a tough little gun. Extremely compact and very well built.

Of course I think we are way to gun crazy here. It's messed up everywhere.

Got the Keltec PF9 new from a local SM racer who happens to also own a gun shop. Got a good price from a good guy and I'll pick it up from him on Sunday at the track.

Appreciate the advise, but to get the ruger I'd have to prepurchase and wait for the backorder, where with the keltec I'll have it Sunday.

Plus, I really like this

After you've put some rounds through it post a little review. I've played with a few Kel-Tec's, but never been thrilled with the quality, but it can vary from model to model.

Since you take your gun knowledge seriously... I'll work this in a polite and informative way instead of how I'd like to word it.

9x18 is also known as Makarov. The round has signifigantly less power than the 9x19=perebelum=Luger, but slighty more than a .380.

9x18 has such a low muzzle energy that you should NEVER CARRY HP ammo in one, the same for .380. The energy is so low that they only get 3-4" of penetration. 6" is the minimum "required lethal penetration". So, the moral of the story is that if you intend to carry a gun for self defense instead of paper, buy something with more *** than a 9x18 or .380. 9mm is a good round, .40 is better but you have to trade capacity.

I personally don't carry .45s for two reasons.
1) Cost of ammo for practice
2) lack of capacity in smaller frame firearms

#2 is the more concerning one.

I currently do not own a 9x19, but I do own a 9x18 that I bought with the intent to carry. I later found out about the insufficient power, and have dedicated it to target and plinking duty. I also own a glock 23 .40 that I carry and the wife's beretta .22LR Neos.

My next purchase will be a P-11 closely followed by a rock island armory 1911 (despite the cost).

We should start a gun section on the forum...lots of folks on here are into them. I think I own about 12-13 guns now, only one uses CO2.

I love my P22. I also have it outfitted with an HM2 Barrel. (.177 Mach 2)
Never had a problem firing it with 22 ammo though. Great gun.

The P22 is probably the coolest looking piece in the lot, except maybe for the XD. But it's certainly not nearly as small as a PF9 and doesn't have the nifty belt clip.

If you're looking for a pocket gun, why not a j-frame?

A 442 or 642 is the perfect pocket gun.

Try living in merrie olde Englande, carrying a gun here is a BIG no-no.

Interesting reading this though, I had no idea of the variety of small handguns that you guys in the U.S.A. can buy, and in some cases legitimately carry on your person
I get to fire off a few cool guns in my job, but not often I get to try out a handgun/pistol.
