According to wikipedia, there were only 4750 produced. I like them, but I'd rather have a subie for a daily driver.

 

I have a friend who had a silver one, he sold for 7200. (He sold it for the new MS3 though, and the dealer said he would only give him 7000 trade in, so he sold it on the base lot for 7200, and used it as his down payment with a different salesman.)

I was looking at the msp because its essentially a miata with a sedan body. I want something that will be super reliable. I'd buy one of those "sport" package camry's if I could afford it.

 

they want $6k...maybe I could jew them to $5000. I don't really want a car with 100k on it though. Are these fairly reliable?

anyone have experince with subaru.?how are the wrx boxster motors .are they a bitch to work on.how many miles are they good for.

 

Well, personally I have no experience except for helping my friend out with his wrx a couple of times, but that said his wrx runs great and seems very reliable. Although I remember there being something about it being really hard to change spark plugs due to the boxer layout. But his engine takes a lot of abuse and hard driving and hasn't given up yet.

Also for a DD I have always had a thing for 2.5rs, although they seem to be getting harder and harder to find.

Forgot to add, the stock transmissions aren't that strong.

 

My old boss had an Outback. It was used to haul around landscaping tools and a trailer with 2 lawn mowers in it. 123,xxx miles on it last time I was in it, ran great. I'm not sure of any options it had, it was a 5 speed though. It was an alright car, the doors seemed really small and it was difficult to get in the rear doors. I knew another guy that owned one and he loved it to death, took it four wheelin all the time.

 

I seriously don't understand why you have so many issues with your VW's. Whats the problem now?

put the trans in, then the rear end. Time to start the car, and the ignitor smokes, and wires are really hot...now I have no instrument cluster and the starter won't turn. I'm not going to chase down electrical problems. If its just the ignitor or coil, I'll fix it and drive it. If not, I'm moving on. Every VW i've had is a pain in the ***.

 

I used to beat the living **** out of our WRX and that transmission was plenty strong... at 400 WHP they begin too look a tad week. We had over 100k miles and the worst that happened was the AC compressor went south on us. The motor is dead reliable. We now have a Forester 2.5XT and it's just as solid. Nothing ever seems to break. Changing the clutch is a bit of a bitch, but not too horrible in the WRX (we were testing for ACT.)

they are a 2003 model car, and it's not a kia.. good luck on the 8-9k thing.

 

msprotege.com has people who have come to the realization all the time. There are about 3 for sale at any given time there. Watch out for the 2003-2003.5 which have a weak diff whose casing cracks.

 

just get an 03 and up corolla and turbo it. (-= They have kits for them for around 3g's, and they are torquey lil bastards

 

As for subaru's, you can buy 02-03 wrx's cheaper than a 99-01 2.5rs. The fan boys have driven the prices up, due to the popularity of that chassis, and they are doing turbo conversions left and right..

the wrx tranny sucks ***, mainly due to the lack of support on the main shaft. as it passes over the front diff, it is unsupported for like 8-12", combined with the fact that gears 1 and 2 are intergrated into this shaft... heavy driving causes flex, the flex puts uneven loads on the gears, and then teeth fly off the gears, requiring a replacement of the main shaft.. fun.
