dont hate. You get people like that everywhere.

Plus the houston region is one of the best in the country since it is very organized down here. :)

I'm a big fan of auto-x too but I'm starting to realize it doesn't pay to get better at it. You get even less seat time. If I could afford track days I'd do that. Yeah I know the value is much higher but $250 is a little steep for me. That's why we do tons of runs in the mountains. high speeds, no rules(unless a popo rolls up), and plenty of things to dodge(people on bikes, dogs, deer)

sbrian2 09-11-2007 08:15 AM

Well, my wife and I have made around $5,000 in cash and won several sets of free tires this year. How bad does auto-x suck now?

Loki047 09-11-2007 09:09 AM

yeah how many events did you go to?

Zabac 09-11-2007 09:38 AM

all you stop hating on auto-x...you keep forgetting what its all about...yeah there is some morons out there, but look at it this way, remember those kids in school that you just could not avoid but you were still nice to them...yeah...they are still around and probably like auto-x because you like auto-x...so just keep trying to avoid them, and those of you who have to wait around for 12 hours to get all your runs in...too bad, start your own club and make your own rules if you dont like them, there are clubs that only allow scca members, so get involved and do something...

That is for 6 National events so far this year, but we are leaving next week for the Pro Solo Finale and Nationals. We have also done about 10 local events this year too.

Loki047 09-11-2007 09:53 AM

16*8=128hrs (not to mention driving time and gas)

Not worth it.

SCCA sucks up here, 4 runs or something like that for an entire day.

Zabac 09-11-2007 10:03 AM

yeah dude, you need to do something then, its not easy to organize these events, start your own club...have them more often, and limit the number of cars...less cars=less wait time

Ben 09-11-2007 10:03 AM

:gtfo:
$6000/128hours = 47 $/hr. seems OK to me

I love autocross. Its not something Im going to be getting into in a huge way but I like to go once a month or so. Its good for seeing how my latest suspension tweak or megasquirt tuning, or whatever else ive done to the car is working at the limits.

10 autocrosses at $25 a pop = $250.

10 autocrosses with 6 runs at 45 seconds each = 14 min 30 sec

1 track day with 6 twenty minute sessions = 120 minutes

and you get to use the other 4 gears!

Providing you have a track near you. Autocross is easily accessible to pretty much everyone.

You've got a 7 speed! :eek5: We often hit 3rd gear on our local courses and runs are in the 60 second range.

I've never not been able to drive my car home from an autocross. 120 min of track driving and you are out 2 sets of tires, 2 sets of brakes and no telling what else you broke. I enjoy getting on the track too, don't get me wrong. But one 20 minute session is enough for me on most occasions.

y8s 09-11-2007 11:31 AM

the courses around here are small--poor Z06s juuuuuuust hitting the rev limit in 2nd. and generally an hour away. the track is about 2.5 hrs away. i've never not been able to drive back from a track event. :)

the track might have been less 20 minute sessions. either way it's more time for sure.

Al Hounos 09-11-2007 11:35 AM

thing is at an autocross, you have real competition. you cant get that on HPDE trackdays. if you start road racing, then it gets REALLY expensive.

oh yeah and the whole not having a track within 5 hours is a big problem too.

cjernigan 09-11-2007 11:39 AM

Not to mention not being able to afford road atlanta, talk about holy shit expensive. My pockets aren't that deep, not right now.

i think that turns me away from auto-x a lot more than annoying people... just isn't worth it for a cramped course and no seat time.
