It believes that by the strength of our common endeavor we achieve more than we achieve alone, so as to create for each of us the means to realize our true potential and for all of us a community in which power, wealth and opportunity are in the hands of the many, not the few, where the rights we enjoy reflect the duties we owe, and where we live together, freely, in a spirit of solidarity, tolerance and respect.

nutshell: not enough things given for free.

When I first read this thread and the entire email .pdf this morning I posted a long reply, hit submit, then found the thread was moved. So now after calming down a bit, my only point was that I completely agree with BEGI.

Its kind of funny following this along. As an American living in England I have been amazed by the consumer protection laws in this country. If Begi was a british company, they would have been falling all over themselves to refund/replace the turbo from square one. The British version of the BBB is called "the office of trading standards" and they dont fuck around. At all. As soon as there is a problem it falls squarely to the seller to prove that the product was not at fault. In the U.S. of course its the other way round.

So 1/2 of the reason this has gotten as bad as it has, is that he is expecting that kind of response from Begi. He isn't going to get it from an American company, and he DAMN SURE isn't going to get it from a Texan company.

Having said that, about 1/2 way thru that chain of emails he did start to ask too much and by the end, as has been stated, he is being a twat.

Say I wanted to place an order for an s4 tubular manifold for a 99-00 miata non egr. How soon should I expect to get one? What about a log style?

Lead time would be about a week, on just the S4 manifold. The cast iron manifolds are in stock. Provided you do not want it ceramic coated.
Thanks,
Stephanie

I have worked in service my entire adult life on one level or another. I have also realized that a lot of people in this hobby really should not be. If blown turbos, transmissions, etc are a inconceivably bad/scary thing to you, take up needle point or scrap-booking. That doesnt mean you accept bad products, but it does mean that when bad things happen you dont go off the deep end. From what I can see, BEGI did pretty much exactly what I would have done if it was my product. Buying a system refered to as a 'Shanghi' kit with warranty explained and then having a problem should not be an entirely unforseen event.

And frankly my bet is that this guy fucked that turbo somehow and that its user-error. The people who flip-out always seem to be the ones who do stupid things in my experience. Which sucks, becuse then one has to deal with them a disproportionate amount of the time.

samnavy 03-31-2010 06:19 PM

^AMEN! It's going to be fucking awesome when that turbo comes back and the oil inlet threads have been stripped or there's Stop-Leak gunked up in the water jacket.

FRT_Fun 03-31-2010 06:36 PM

I did find it suspicious he wouldn't even consider shipping it back. Not jumping to conclusions, but it seems like there may be more the story.. duh duh duuuuuuuuuuh.

cueball1 03-31-2010 06:39 PM

Or it was dropped, or the oil was hooked up to the water, or no restrictor was used, or.....

jacob300zx 03-31-2010 06:55 PM

The shill is thick in this thread. Stephanie, did you find the pictures of my car with the parts installed?

Corky Bell 03-31-2010 09:29 PM

Thanks for the vote, guys.

The gentleman in question did not volunteer to be the president of my fan club. Nor did I offer to do the same for him.

There is probably some serious confusion caused by my serious lack of seriousness. I have seriously thought about working out some serious program to improve my non-serious attitude.

I seriously think Mr. Plumb thought I was serious about denying a warranty if a 20Mton nuke had been set off in the oil cavity. That got seriously out of hand. Little did he know that I was serious.

Corky
Now, seriously...............

Joe Perez 03-31-2010 09:50 PM

So, what is the maximum nuclear yield against which the turbos are warranted?

:D

ITT: There is one tool

(Hint: It's not Steph or Corkey)

No, actually, there were two.

Neither was a sponsor, an neither can still post here.

Seriously guys, I spent and afternoon chatting with Corky at the shop. Nicest guy you could meet, and has time for everyone. He also does nearly everything around there, from design and business decisions, to customer service and fabrications.

He welded my O2 and IAT bungs right in front of me, where I wanted them, all while telling me stories about what A&M was like when he was there (hint, there weren't any skirts to chase).

They are a small operation, and are going to drop the ball. Not excuseable really, but does require them to fix some problems. The guy literally wrote the book, and if he wants to make turbo kits for Miatas until he can't keep a good bead anymore we ought to let him do so without dragging his damn name through the mud, or insulting his daughter.

I had to wait for parts just like everyone else (on a used kit that I picked up "complete" no less), but I kept contact with Steph civil and she took care of me. Was I a little upset at the time? Yeah. Am I over it after almost exactly a year of boosting around with that same kit? Hell yeah.

Keep realistic expectations, be diplomatic, and support those that support our hobby.

EDIT:

Thread title: NEVER buy from BEGi ??? Really?

How about, if you're gonna buy from BEGi understand it may take a while, and may lack some parts, and may require a return on the Chinese turbo, but they're going to take care of you, and your setup will be badass.

Are you referring to Jabob300zx? What was he banned?

Savington 03-31-2010 11:55 PM

BEGi's poor customer service history notwithstanding, if you want your money back on a part, you send it back to the manufacturer or dealer first. That's just sort of how it works. Getting your panties in a twist because they won't send you a $350 check on good faith is amusing.

That VQ powered build is prety darn crazy. I'd love to go back and see that thing when it's near completion. They had some other goodies there that I'd like to see again.
I still think the office cats are the coolest part of the whole place. Too bad they got rid of most of them.
