I'm starting to lean towards this:

BLOV8 (or BLOV8R)

blo·vi·ate
–verb (used without object), ‐at·ed, ‐at·ing.
to speak pompously.
to boast

-Abbreviate : abbrevi ATE (a bree’ vee ate) v.

Make short

-Enervate : enerv ATE (en’ er vate) v.

To take away strength; enfeeble

Then there are just words that have the "8" to hint at the extra cylinders:

-Exaggerate : exagger ATE (eg zaj’ e rate) v.

To cause to appear larger than reality

-Integrate : integr ATE (int’ e grate) v.

To cause to become a whole

-Infiltrate : infiltr ATE (in fil’ trate) v.

To cause to slip through; as through enemy lines or a filter

-Permeate : perme ATE (per’ mee ate) v.

To go through and through

-Decimate : decim ATE (des’ i mate) v.

To kill every tenth man in a group; destroy large numbers

Or: VEE ATE

So you would need a dictionary to get your vanity plate? Interesting. Have you ever heard bloviate used in everyday conversation?

If I saw BLOV8 on a license plate I would assume supercharged V8.

Like I said, I am an O'reilly Factor fan. Anyone who watches his show knows that word well. But yes, I like the fact that you would need a dictionary to get my plate <G>.

I'd think you were gay with the "blo" in it driving a miata.... V8 or not.

Perception Vs Reality are often far apart, and the undereducated masses like myself are the norm.

I'm catching up on my Boardwalk Empire tonight and Warren G. Harding just said bloviate (episode #8). I've heard the word originated with him (or at least he made it popular).

Sorry to say, I am going to agree that blov8 would cause me to think you had a blown V8 or that you could blow away a V8 or that maybe you give head to musclecar guys. With things like a bumpersticker or a vanity plate you will always need to consider the lowest common denominator in society. Ninety plus percent of the motoring public will misunderstand your plate. Remember, you are broadcasting and not narrowcasting.

As a college graduate, I barely knew the word's exact meaning because of it's relative obscurity in common speech. Even with O'Reilly's occasional use of the word, his viewership peaked in 2009 with .9% of the population of the US. That means 99.1% of the public has not been exposed. But ultimately it is your car and your choice and it should make you happy. Just trying to play devil's advocate.
