They seem to ignore friction between band and the silicone. Wouldn't the slots in the worm gear band gouge into the silicone and create drag, uneven clamping, and possible damage to the hose?

if you have cheap couplers and overtighten the clamp, yes.

The t bolt is going to give a ton more clamping force than the worm gear because it's not holding the band in place with the edge of the screw.

I bought baggies of stainless worm clamps from fastenal. I paid for all my clamps what you pay for one t-bolt, without all the pain in the *** size memorization. I was going to fix it at some point, but the point never came.

I have steel intercooler plumbing too, lol

people don't realize how little "force" is actually even needed with a properly beaded pipe

I was on the same bandwagon until I saw numerous subaru's, evo's and GTR's running worm clamps on 30-50psi setups making upwards of 500whp

Meh, that's bogus. On all generators I service, 100% of the reliable units use t-bone clamps or oetiker clamps. Worm drives clamps are horrible unless you buy the best brands with smooth bands MADE FOR silicone . T-bone clamps are always the better option, if you want to be able to set it and forget it.....

Does it all come down to proper beading? What is allowing those other cars to run 30-50 psi and not pop hoses off?
