Default WTF is this?

This is the 2011 VW Jetta.

This is the 2011 Toyota Corolla.

This is the 2011 Ford Taurus.

This is the 2011 Ford Fusion.

This is the 2011 Honda Accord.

Not only do they all look very similar, they all have the same ugly hubcaps. Why is car design turning into this?

Remember the 1980s?

All this has happened before, and it will all happen again.

2 words: wind tunnel.

It's all about the latest efficient design. Style is for those willing to pay for it.

It's got the aerodynamic qualities of a glorified brick!

Aerodynamics is a funny business. Given some of the more fundamental constraints placed on the design of a car (eg: must have space inside for people) some of those boxes are actually a pretty good aerodynamic compromise.

Hmm.

For perspective, Marty McFly went Back to the Future in 1985. Who here clearly remembers not being a fetus when that movie was in theaters? Show of hands.

Thanks for making me feel old.

I went to see BttF, and was one of the older people in the crowd. I think I stopped going to the theater around 1990 (too many ********) and just rented tapes after that.

Remember VHS?

I'd love to say "I was a fetus!" but no, I'm 56 and was apparently born in 1955

**** yeah, I do.

I have a very impressive VHS collection. Everything from Godzilla to Starship Troopers to the original Spawn series.

Hell, I don't even have a dvd player. If I need to watch a DVD I dust off my PS3 and use that. The only systems I play on a regular basis are my Sega Genesis and my N64. The PS3 gets used for the occasional DVD or when I want to play a PS1 game.

We were a Betamax family.

Remember when movie stores rented not just videocassettes, but also the machines to play them in? Those were special nights.
