Got my $15 quad-rails in... gonna be just fine on my 2 beater guns. They're heavy'ish and the coating and machining are pretty rough, but they were damned cheap! They'll be on a midlength barrel, so the gas block will stick out 1/2" or so... not worried. Schuyler Arms | AR-15 10" Quad Rail - Blem

500 Tactical? I don't think I've ever seen one with the ghosties and the heat-shield... is that a factory model or did the shop add the shield?
I know my Mav88 will never let me down, and I like the bolt safety way better than the tang... but after shooting a bunch of mid-grade tactical guns (590, Nova), it's a real knuckle-dragger.
I had a buddies SXP bird gun out the other day and it was the best-shooting $300 gun I've ever picked up. Granted, he had some cheater choke on there throwing a huge pattern, but I'm such **** at shooting clays that it shouldn't have mattered... I couldn't miss. The gun was ****. It's on my short-list after I get the kids .22lr purchases squared away.

Got a hall-pass to hit my favorite local place on Sat.
It's an hour drive, but I get there at sunrise and usually have the place to myself for a few hours. It's private, so first person there opens the range and acts as RSO... I was finishing up just as a crew arrived for a bowling-pin shoot. That's my 6.8spc deer gun on the table.
I also finally finished off the two beater lowers I've been working on for the past year. I've got all the parts for the matching uppers except the receiver... waiting for Aim Surplus to get in a shipment of stripped Anderson Uppers for $39... gonna buy 2 of them and one of the slicksides for a 9mm build.
I function tested those lowers on a couple mags of .22lr. A few months ago, I traded for a CMMG .22lr drop-in kit... it's done about 400rds and feeds Federal Auto-Match with impunity.
That upper is a PSA receiver/barrel and ALG Defense rail w/MBUS flip-ups. It shoots 1.5moa with my 55hr .223 handloads.. At 50yds standing with .22lr, I can put a whole mag rapid-fire into a full-size human silhouette target.
I'm spoiled. This is the club I am a member of. Ranges from 25 yards to 600. Shoot on the move, shoot from a holster, run your own range if you are the only one there. Over 250 acres
Witness polymer small frame, takes cz75 mags, $270 from my LGS. Its about as heavy as my 226. I liked the stock SA better, besides the RIDICULOUS trigger slap. Like 125 rounds in and my finger was numb, ow. Pulled it apart, put in a ca reduced power trigger spring, pen spring for the trigger bar plunger, and cz75 sear spring. And polished every surface that moves on the trigger pull with 1000 grit. I also made the chamfer for the firing pin block and the closed action safety where the trigger bar rides on those more generous to hopefully mitigate the the trigger slap. Pull feels like low 3 pounds now and smooth, just with a lot of takeup between where the trigger rests and where it resets, but a trigger stop would disable the DA function, not that I care since it doesnt have a decocker.
Out of curiosity, what kind of range fees do you guys have in your areas?
Everything within an hour drive of me seems fairly expensive. 99% of the time I end up plinking on the farm because it's free.
Also, anyone shoot steel? I bought an AR500 target and I like it for pistol and my bolt rifle, but it doesn't hold up to my AR. I shot a few 5.56 rounds from 100 yards and pitted it.
Company says not to shoot anything over 2850fps. I must be over that with my 20" barrel and 55gr. If I can believe the internet equations I found, I am a little over 3000fps and I need to move the target out past 300 yards. Thoughts?
Membership dues for my club are $285/yr PLUS $180/yr special assessment. The reason being that when we moved to our location we were somewhere around 8 million dollars in debt. That included 500+ acres of land purchase, 600 yard berm construction, etc etc. If Chicago had been selected as the host for the (2016) summer Olympics our club was slated to be the host for the shooting sports portion of the competition. When that fell through, we sold about 300 acres that was used mainly as fall-off for our lead shot and renegotiated our debt. With the special assessment, we have been able to get down to about 2 million of debt in only a couple years time.
Sometime in the next year or so we will have paid off the remainder of our debt and we have the decision wither or not to keep the assessment for a year or two to finish building out the club as it was originally designed including indoor pistol range, full target pits and carriages in the 600 yard range, and full camping hookups with electrical service.
Or, we lower the assessments and we keep the club as it is. At $285/yr I think the club is a bargain as it is a family membership and guests are only $10ea for shooters with an unlimited time limit per visit.
My club is 125 a year, including family. $5 guests but an individual guest can only come 3 times a year, if they come more than that they should just get a membership. Members also get discounts on public clay shoots and action shooting matches. Its a pretty good deal when you consider that the public ranges are all indoor only and they're $15 an hour.

Yup, the slicksides have actually been there for weeks... I need one for a dedicated .22lr upper and one for 9mm. When the regulars come back, gonna buy 2 of each and one of their EXO BCG's for $119. I'm trying to get to the point where I "don't need any more guns" before Hillary really ramps up her **** around the middle of her second year in office. If Anderson lowers ever come back in stock for $39 anywhere, I'm gonna grab 5.
They just opened a Gander Mtn here in town... gonna head down there this weekend and see what kind of deals on youth .22lr rifles they're having. Savage Rascal needs to happen.
Yay, I finally get to contribute to the gun thread. First purchase in quite a few years.
It is smaller than the ruger MK but more importantly, it's a thousand times easier to field strip and clean. The Ruger mk pistols are like putting together a booby-trapped grandfather clock. The ppk takes literally 5 seconds for assembly or disassembly. You just pull down on the trigger guard and lift the slide. It's fabulous.
Haven't shot it yet. Can is an Element 2 which I bought a while back.
