Nice Sam.
Hey, I can't remember if I've asked you or not.... Can I get your opinion on that Savage Mark II FV-SR 22 rifle you bought a while back? Missed out on that $180 sale when you picked up one but recently found some sub-$250 in a local shop and have been giving some serious thought on picking it up...
Recently read the non-"accustock" stock sucks but the guns overall performance is good.
Have you managed to find any higher capacity magazines?
What scope did you select for the rifle, if any?
Is the action smooth and fast?
How does that crazy accutrigger feel in actual firing? I've only played with a display model of the trigger.
Am I being too picky about a $200 .22 bolt rifle? Have been scouring the used .22lr bolt rifle selection everywhere I've gone since missing out on that sale, can't seem to even come close to 'features' even when paying retail price for the FVSR..

I like it a lot... take it out and put 100rds through it over the course of 1/2 hour and love every trigger pull. I've recently been enjoying CCI Quiets... no hearing protection required.
If you're not planning on getting suppressor, I'd pick one of the other models though. The MKII-FV has an un-threaded bull barrel and scope mounts vice a rail. You don't get quite the tactical look, but it should technically be more accurate.
The regular stock isn't the best, but I'm not anywhere near good enough to notice.
What you could do is buy the MKII-F and the Boyds stock for it. You're all in for same price as an FV-SR but now have an acceptable stock. You still don't have a threaded barrel or rail though.
I like the trigger, but don't have enough .22lr time with other bolt rifles to have much of a comparison. The first week of November, I'll be able to directly compare a CZ 455 against my Savage for several days, and will have lots to talk about.
You can buy 10rd mags from CDNN all the time. I got mine when they were on sale for $12 and they were having a $3.99 shipping-for-your-entire-order deal.
I did a lot of homework before getting my scope. In the end, I decided that there was no way I was spending more than $50 on one for taking max 100yd shots. I've got a Simmons .22mag 4x32... paid like $40 shipped for it. It was "THE" scope recommended at Rimfirecentral for anybody on a budget. There is also a 4-9x32 model for like $8 more if you really want the extra magnification. It helps seeing your shots better. But I like taking 20shots, then waking down there and looking, then coming back and making an adjustment and shooting 20more. All part of the fun.
I'd be as picky as you have time to be. I debated for months, and waited for that particular rifle to go one sale. I DOUBT it will ever be that cheap again, and as we get closer to the election and the holidays, ALL 22ls's will start disappearing from stores and online places.
In the end, if you're talking about shooting 100yds with a .22lr, your ammo selection will be 90% of your accuracy. I'm super happy with baseballs at 100yds with the 500rd cheapo bulk packs I usually shoot. I'm sure I could get that down to golf ***** and better at 100yds with some Eley match stuff.

Just get the FV-SR. It's what you want. It's $250. You'll never have a problem selling it for that same amount in an Kansas as a FTF state. Buy it now, put 1000rds through it, and if you can't stand the stock, wait until the week before x-mas and put it up for sale for $300 with whatever cheap scope you put on it and make 100% of your money back.

Headed to Barneys to put a deposit down on a G19 gen4. I'm headed off on det for a few weeks, and it should be in when I get back. Already have a buyer lined up for my PF9 in order to pay for it... then I should be done buying/selling guns for awhile.
S&W MP15 (additional 300blk upper in the works)
G17 Gen4
Maverick 88
Savage MKII FV-SR
I think I've got all the bases covered and the wife will be happy that I've gone from 8 guns down to 4 in less than 6 months.
If the ATF can get their **** together and get the wait time down to under a couple months, I'll absolutely be getting a suppressor for the Savage. In the meantime I've discovered CCI Quiets that are fuggin sweet. 40gr, 750fps, 40ftlbs, 68db.

Oo! I hadn't seen the CCI Quiets. I've been using the Aguila 20gr Colibri (for handguns) and Super Colibri (for rifles) in my Winchester 9422 to dispatch possums without pissing off the neighbors. The Colibri in a rifle length barrel is quieter than my break action .177 pellet gun, and far more lethal. The Super Colibri is only slightly louder. I'd be interested to see exactly how quiet the CCI Quiets are in a rifle length barrel.
My favorite is still the CCI 40gr SubSonic HP. Makes a nice meaty FWOP! on target and the hollow point is big enough that it gives good expansion at lower speeds.

I'll be buying a couple 500ct boxes of the Quiets if I see them... I think the Cabelas near me has them. I saw a couple threads on a silencer forum that say that unsuppressed Quiets are the same as suppressed subsonics... a couple guys said they could hear a difference in sound, but couldn't specifically say which one was louder.
And a couple hundred more fps makes a big difference, so there's still a reason to get a suppressor to shoot subs and regular ammo.
Deposit laid down for G19 gen4... will have it on the 17th. Then sell my PF9, and buy 300blk parts. Xmas is early this year!

From what I'm led to understand, they're "sold out" of carbines.
I really want my own Garand but I'm worried about receiving a POS from them. I was hoping planning a trip to their facility to hand pick a Field Grade rifle, if possible.
Have y'all experienced issues with "modern" commercial ammunition and the gas system? I've read online that it's possible to have some failures.
I guess I need to join a club or something.

The Garand I still have is either a Field or Service Grade. Springfield receiver was built in 1942 and it saw an arsenal rebuild with new SA barrel sometime between 51-53. Its definitely a shooter and 90% are SA stamped parts. All finishes match on the hardware and its mechanically 100%. Very, very minor pitting in the op-rod underneath the handguard. At some point, the stock was refinished with something semi shiny by someone who probably saw a lot of guard duty. It lacks the OMGSEX cartouche stamps in the stock, but they were probably sanded out by whomever did the stock.
My IBM Carbine is as god intended. The CMP Carbines were re-issued for Austrian/Bavarian/German domestic state and local police on the allied side after WW2 once they took away all their Mausers. They were lovingly cared for by The Germans for many years before being put into storage before the CMP received them. More info can be found here: Civilian Marksmanship Program
I did them all through the mail and none of mine were lemons. I've heard 0 horror stories about the quality of the CMP Garands unless its someone who orders a Rack and expects matching finish and numbers. I can get pics and check paperwork when I get home if you are interested. If you want to go local, you can do that... but keep in mind there were already 1,000 other guys there who have picked over the guns before you got there.
I also hope you like cosmoline.
