Quick update on the ammo price gouging front.

Ammo sales have all but dried up. Over the past couple of months supply has really dropped off but so have the prices. Not sure why but I think it goes to show that this is not being driven by normal market rules. CCI Mini-Mag 22LR was selling for $0.25/round but is down below $0.16 now. From time to time I am getting it at very low prices (meaning good profit) but most of the time it is so expensive I don't mess with it.

The cheapest price I am seeing for Tula 7.62x39 is around 0.29/round. Not sure if it will drop in a couple of weeks or if we will be longing for something as low as $0.29 a year from now. Who knew that you would be able to buy .223 cheaper than 7.62x39 in 2014.

Yes, I would be in favor of the market price of Mosins jumping to $300.

Your muzzle brake has really messed me up. All I can think about it cutting another one down and welding a brake on it.

you gotta have one at least with a brake... hey i have this small sightbased m44 slide on-lock brake you can fumble with from Mosin Plus LLC. that didnt fit at all, sell it to you for half of what I paid-- $30 bucks.

Its not as cool looking as my new one, though.

Bought a 20 round mag and installed a muzzle booster on the M92 last week. Finally got to the range today. Wow, that thing is a lot of fun to shoot. I thought it would be next to impossible to hold it away from my face and shoot it (worried it would recoil back and break my nose) but it wasn't bad at all. I tried to hold it with one hand like you would hold a pistol but the thing is too heavy to keep it out there for very long. The real fun was just holding it down by my gut and doing a mag dump. I think I am going to try to fab up some sort of slide fire type bump fire mechanism for it. Should be a fun gun with which to waste ammo.

He didn't ban all Russian AK's. The ban was on one company (and all their subsidiaries). Still, I don't see him banning Russian Vodka for some reason.

AFAIK, Chinese AKs were banned by Clinton in '93 with GWBush banning the remaining Chinese weapons and ammo years later. Sometimes conservatives are as big an obstacle to gun owners as liberals are. Big gov't is big gov't....

The ban has nothing to do with AK47's and everything to do with Russia being stupid right now. Unless Serbia or China decides to take over another country they won't face sanctions and their AK47's won't be banned.

Other than the Saiga company what else was banned? I don't know, I'm honestly asking. Did he ban Russian brand Legos? Russian Pop-Tarts? Or was it just guns/ammo?

Aren't Chinese (Norinco) AK's still banned?

Internet has been good enough out here that I've been able to keep close tabs on all my reloading supply websites.

The prices on bulk bullets across the board have come down anywhere from 10%-20% in the past month.

Top-shelf rifle bullets never really got more expensive during the craziness, the supply just dried up completely... but plinking bullets went up about 50%, especially hard-cast lead for some reason.

You can buy .223 55gr FMJ and 9mm 115gr plated plinking bullets right now for .08cents/ea shipped in the 500ct, and a pinch cheaper in larger quantities... at a half-dozen place I look. Two months ago, those were .10cents ea at the cheapest place on the net I know of.

Rifle powder came back fully in stock everywhere about 6 months ago, but pistol powder is still damn-near impossible. It's available if you've got a hookup at your LGS when they get a shipment, but don't count on randomly running across any.

Primers of all kinds except some bench-rest specialty stuff has been good for almost a year... occasionally some of the good small-rifle primers are tough to find though.

What hasn't come down at all, and continues to be more expensive than pre-SHE... brass. A LOT OF PEOPLE got into the bulk milsurp brass game when the craziness happened, and for some reason, nobody is budging on their prices. Once-fired 5.56 and 7.62 Lake City is a benchmark on what things cost.

I saw once fired 223 the other day for $0.33 and thought it was a good deal. I don't hardly shoot the M4 but I can't remember prices being lower than that.

I assume you are talking about the Korean ones. While I want to see more garands and carbines as much as the next guy, weren't there some legitimate reasons for not allowing them back in?

I seem to recall that Korea was trying to sell them to us, even though technically they are still owned by the United States Government.

There are lots of other sanctions that the US/EU have levied on Russia since the whole Ukraine thing has started. I am not sure what all in particular is being sanctioned, but there is a lot. Billionaires are starting to not be very happy.

If I can get enough bandwidth for Paypal to work, am gonna buy the first "major" part for my AR10 build... upper receiver. A couple months ago, one of the mass production places finally discovered there was enough of a market to put some serious effort into the DPMS platform and start shitting out stripper receivers. Aero precision is probably the "mass'est" of mass-production receiver manufacturers. Their shiz is just fine. I was really hoping that PSA would get their **** together in time for this build, but the price is right and I gotta buy when I see a deal.

Anyways, just picked up assembled Aero Precision .308 upper for $134 shipped from a dude on Calguns... IF I CAN GET PAYPAL TO WORK!

Spreadsheet says $746 to go if I only get the Rainier Match Barrel... add $140 for Ultramatch:
AeroP Lower Receiver
AeroP Charge Handle
Rainier Arms 20" .308 barrel
BCG (Hardened Arms or AimSurplus)

Hey Sam, I'm not sure if you've seen anything about this, but dpms just updated their AR10 platform. It's lighter and shorter, uses two extractors, and is not compatible with the majority of the original platform's parts. If you haven't dumped the cash yet, it might be worth taking a look at.

Yup, I saw them. The reviews say they're great, but they're also a compromise depending on what model you buy.

My goal is a gun that puts accuracy first... that's why I'm going with a match barrel from a top-shelf company and staying away from any fancy ****. I've also shuffled some funds and will be going with a single-stage match trigger of some brand... not sure which yet.

Second, it's gotta be light enough to go hunting with.

And third, it's gotta be stupid reliable. The only thing I really debated was the adjustable gas-block. I wanted a fixed unit bad because the adjustable ones can come out of adjustment and are an additional point of failre... until I found the Syrac. It spoke to me. And now I'll be able to tune it and shoot everything from 110gr varmint stuff all the way to 220gr subs and everything in between... and not have to worry about cycling or hold-open.

All the homework I've done says this gun will be the most accurate part of the equation. My handloads and skill will determine how small a group I can make. I'll break it in with PMC bronze and do a baseline with some FGMM and Remington Premier to see what she can do with top-shelf factory match ammo... then get to work developing loads.

My first job is to get some 168gr Gamekings down to 5" at 500yds... once that load is complete, I can get fancy. I've already got 300 168's stashed, and an additional 600ct of 175gr Matchkings. I've got a good baseline to start, but I'll need to get used to the gun and probably play with a few powders to see what it likes.
