The ones in my BCM were tapered, they tapped out just fine with the proper tool. Just gotta make sure you are taping them in the correct direction

And no, the pins did not appear to be reusable.

I guess I should have jumped on one of the $99 PSA blemished AR15 barrels that went on sale today. It looks like they are already sold out. For you guys who watch those things, will they come back around anytime soon? I'm thinking that would have been a good solution for my problem.

PSA has regular sales on beater barrels, but Classic is the current king of ridiculously cheap barrels... shipping I think is a little steep there, but I know you need another crate of 54r ammo too.

I'm down to maybe 35 Mosins right now but I only have 19 tins of ammo. Maybe it is time to take a drive and fill the pickup truck again.

Yeah, I had forgotten they were selling them. Wonder if their barrels are worth a damn?

Winter sucks. I dont have the nads to go shooting when its 30* out, but might be taking a day off next week to hit up a new range in NC... will get a ton of testing done.

I have one of the $80 16" PSA non-chrome(phosphate), non-stamp,1:9 barrels from their big NewYears blowout. I can bet its the same **** as Classic is selling. I have no expectations, but will be happy with 2-3" groups on shitty Tula, a bit better on my Dillon loads, and am hoping for 1" with my tuned loads on the Forster. We'll see. Its an HD/noise-making gun, so whatever.

Where do you go shooting? I've been going to CSA, but I've just got a pistol.

The Currituck Shooting Club in Moyock is the one we're gonna try maybe next week. Do you have base access? There is a rifle range on Fort Eustis that is supposed to be great, but you've gotta register any weapons you take on the base into a federarl law-enforcement database, which so far has been a deal-breaker for me... and they only allow up to 5.56 AFAIK.

I've kinda got base access. My roommate retired, I didn't feel like hanging on that long.

I'll have to check out Currituck when I get back from NY.

Comments on this barrel ($113 shipped)?

GM-M9 16" 1:9 Twist M4 Barrel Chromed and Phosphated - Green Mountain Rifle Barrel Co.

Edit: I think I have changed my mind so I am no longer interested in the above barrel (for now). I think I would like to buy an upper end long barrel for 200+ yard shooting. I see CDNN has Colt 6724's on sale for $1000. From what I have read they are an excellent choice and use a 24" heavy barrel. I would like to duplicate that barrel on my rifle. Maybe not 24" but then again, I wouldn't necessarily mind it. I have 2500 rounds of that all copper 55gr bullet and could build something that would shoot those well. Any suggestions on a nice barrel in the $250-$300 range? I'm assuming that buying a barrel for more than that would not be as economical as just buying the Colt (resale value, etc). Comments?

About a year ago, I came to my own personal revelation about owning AR15's, and what I discovered was that I didn't really need to own 10 of them. I have to support my hobbies around the constraint of having a wife and 2 kids... "on a budget" is my motto.

What I decided was to build a "do-all" lower and save the money I'd spend on building up a bunch of lowers to build some really good uppers. My lower is built around a PSA classic, with an ALG Defense trigger, JP Springs, JoeBob Trigger Screw, and Magpul STR Stock. This setup can do just about everything really well. HD/precision/hunting/bench/target/etc... it really does it all.

I have another stripped lower still in the box, and another built up with pistol buffer tube that will get an 8" 300blk barrel some day...

But with my one good lower, I can attach any upper for any job, which means I can afford to build good uppers. I haven't bought into the billet hype, and everyday PSA or Anderson stripped uppers for $40 have worked for millions of others, so if I was looking to spend money on a long-range upper, I'd go with a proven barrel-maker with a matched bolt, and buy every other part of the upper as cheaply and generically as possible.

I've done the homework on precision barrels, and the Rainier Arms 18" Match .223 Wylde is the one I would buy if in the market.

Remember that accuracy is generally considered to be independent of barrel length. AOTBE, barrel length does not affect accuracy, it only affects velocity. True, longer barrels can exhibit harmonics and flex that shorter barrels generally won't, but that doesn't mean they're less accurate.
Watch this video and look at how much the barrel flexes... the longer the barrel, the more deflection... but again, not necessarily less accurate. The goal with any handload, and why you experiment in order to find accuracy nodes is very much because of barrel flex. The whole idea with accuracy is that every bullet exits the barrel at the exact same speed and exact same degree up/down of flex as every other bullet. Very precise crafting of ammo and LOTS of testing will get you there.

If your bullets are flying down the barrel at 100fps faster/slower, and your bullet seating is off by a few thousandths, and your crimps are all f'ed up, and your primers are made in Russia, and your brass is worn out... you may still be fine at 100yds, but try 300, 500...

In a perfect world, barrels would have infinite stiffness and flex wouldn't be a factor... just google "benchrest barrel".

I couldn't take it any longer. I ordered the Colt 6724 a few minutes ago. Not sure what to do with the other rifle now (300 blackout?) but I'm sure I'll put it to good use.

Last budget rifle I built;

Spike's 16" mid length 1:7
Spike's upper
Spike's standard phosphate BCG
Aero Precision lower
PSA LPK
Magpul furniture(CTR stock, MOE grip and handguard)
BAD, ASAP
Troy BUIS
Primary Arms GenII red dot(one failed and replaced under warranty)

krylon

Without the optics and the toys it cost less than a base Colt and less than an Oracle retails for. Always build.

AWESOME!!! If you really want to use this thing as your entry into precision shooting, you're gonna need to "up" your reloading game.

Good .223 brass, match bullets, consistent primers, and an accurate scale.

Gotta read this:

Is this (3000 Hornady 9mm bullets for $250 shipped) a good deal?

Hornady Bullets 9mm (355 Diameter) 115gr FMJ 3,000 Bulk Package - $199.99 | Slickguns

I called the store and they said they don't carry it so paying $33 for shipping is a must (brings price to 8.3 cents each).

For plinking, those are fine... but you'll usually pay a bit more for FMJ vice plated. I have shot thousands of rounds of plated handloads from my G19 and never seen ANY accuracy difference between those and FMJ's. I've also never had any issues loading plated bullets to higher velocities, nor had any fouling or other issues. You don't need to buy FMJ to plink.

I shoot plated almost exclusively just due to cost unless I find a smoking deal on FMJ's (which I haven't recently). I have about 2k left of a Berry's stash I bought from a local seller about 2 years ago, and about 5000k 115gr plated from RMR waiting to load... but I've got about 3k loaded 9mm rounds so I probably won't load any new ones until mid-summer at least.

IMHO, unless you have a local source that is cheaper, the best place on the net to buy bullets is rmrbullets.com

These guys have a great reputation in the reloading community, have consistent great deals on various pulled stuff, ship very fast, and have a fantastic return and feedback system. They respond to emails and actually answer the phone.

Currently their 115gr plated is $78/1k shipped:
RMR Bullets - 9mm 115 Grain RMR Thickly Plated Round Nose (1,000 Count)

Here is there whole 9mm selection, all listed prices include shipping, and you can buy in greater bulk for even cheaper in the dropdown menus:
9mm (.355") - RMR Bullets

I've purchased a ton of their regular and thick plated 9mm, plus about 2k of some 6.8spc bullets they don't have in stock now, some various self-defense 9mm JHP's (Federal HST and Hydra-Shoks), and some .223 FMJ's. These guys are good-to-go and routinely have the cheapest prices on the web for A LOT OF DIFFERENT bullets, and they have great deals on pulled an seconds.

Bought a Lee Classic 4 hole turret press for $100 shipped this morning and used a Gander Mountain (what a truly horrible store) gift card to get a Lee 9MM die set yesterday. I don't have bullets, powder, or primers for 9mm yet but even more importantly I don't currently own a weapon that will shoot 9mm. I took the Desert Eagle 50 to the range a couple of days ago and let a guy shoot it. In return he let me shoot his CZ75 SP01 9mm. WOW, that was a sweet pistol. Expensive but sweet. I'll probably go with a cheap carbine though. There is a local gun show coming up in a week and I might slip over there and try to find a cheap Hi-Point 9mm carbine. Ugly as sin and 10 round max but I have seen nothing but glowing reviews for it. Would be nice to find a used one at the show.

If the idiots who sent that thing to market had used anything other than Hi-Point OEM mags, they would be worth double on the street like the Keltec Sub2000. I'm waiting for more manufacturers to get into the 9mm AR15 game. I can reload 9mm for less than I can buy even the cheapest .22lr, so I really want a 9mm upper. I thought when PSA started theirs awhile back, more companies would show and the prices would come down, but not yet.

Also, finally Magpul is going to start selling Glock mags... I read for around $10, which is less than half Glock OEM prices.

I have piles of 9mm reloads & only a Blackhawk to shoot them in right now. I'm in the market for a new 9mm CCW, what do you guys have that you like? I've had a XD Compact 9 & I don't like the high bore axis (prefer Glock in this regard), and I've had a M&P9c which was nice but I shoot a G19 a lot better. I'm tempted to look at the new LCR 9mm since I'm a revolver guy, but I should probably just get a G19. Only shopping because there are a lot of new single stack 9s that are nice for EDC.
