Look what came in the mail the other day
P220 x-six in .45 ACP is a nice companion for my P226 x-six. Gotta collect `em all...

Finally got out and zeroed the CZ 'Scout'...

Results were about what I expected. About 1.5" at 100yds off the bench with steel case "Red Army Standard" 123g JHP, with one consistent flyer out of each 5 shot group. Not bad for 'cheap' steel case ammo. Interestingly the brass case FMJ 123g "Red Army Elite" was consistently double the group size.

I'm pretty happy with the result, and didn't expect better than 1.5 MOA, as that's what I've seen others getting online. I'll probably buy a die set, and collect enough brass to try some handloads and see if I can tighten it up a bit, but for this kind of rifle, and it's expected use, 1.5 MOA is just fine.

Here's a 50yd group fired offhand, which is really more what this rilfe's about...

What, y8s is posting here?

Dad's first rifle:

After he passed last year, I had to go find his hidden stash of rilfes. He didn't have too many left. My mom claims this was his first.

He did keep a lot of pistols, but those were all locked in a half-ton safe.

You should be stoked with that. Just for ***** a few years back we took my buddies Louisiana Precision .308 bolt gun and shot all the shittiest stuff we can find. That $3k gun wearing $3k US Optics shot 1.5" or worse with steel case. Not saying you're going to shoot 1/4 MOA with handloads like this gun did, but you should grab a box of FGMM to baseline it with good stuff.

Reminds me to schedule a shooting afternoon next time I visit my parents in CA. Last time I shot Dads stuff I was in High School... would be interesting to pick up all the "old stuff" I learned on after a few decades of nothing but evil black guns and modern polymer pistols.

I am perfectly happy with the results.

I don't think Federal makes GMM in 7.62x39, though I am going to try some 'quality' ammo, whether factory or handloaded, down the line. Just to find out the best that it can do.

D'oh! You're right, forgot the caliber.
That gun deserves at least a box of good stuff... grab a couple boxes of these and save the brass for reloads: Lapua Ammo 7.62x39mm 123 Grain Full Metal Jacket Box of 30

Also, I just read up on that gun... .311-.312 bore, so you've got some more offerings as long as you keep the weights in range. Many guys will tell you no problem shooting .308 bullets in the slightly larger bore, but you'll need to do some testing... certainly no problem from a safety standpoint. .310 will be no problem either. If you kept he speed down, I'd try some 110gr plated stuff and stay around 1800fps for general plinking, although EVERYBODY is OOS on those.

You should be able to find some powder that works.
7.62 x 39 Load Data - Handloads.Com

A short look reveals that Lapua actually sells bullets in the caliber, but I think for cost and availability, standard Hornady FMJ's will work just fine.

The good thing is that unless you're exploring velocity limits, you should get 10 reloads or so out of Lapua brass... maybe more with the right dies. You can also certainly find a guy local with an annealer and double or triple that count.

Lapua bullets, OOS, but backorderable:
Lapua Bullets 7.62x54mm Rimmed Russian (7.62x53mm Rimmed) (311

Hornady FMJ, in stock and on sale:
Hornady Bullets 7.62x39mm (310 Diameter) 123 Grain Full Metal Jacket

Hornady Z-Max is cheap and very accurate:
Hornady V-Max Bullets 7.62x39mm (310 Diameter) 123 Grain Flat Base Box

The way I read that is a receiver and one mag??

I think they just have four in the pic to show the colors. Still a cheap lower...

A few days ago, I ran into my childhood best friend whom I haven't seen for many years. Crazily, we both ended up at the same company in a town neither of us are from after serving five years in the military.
Anyway, after talking about guns with him for a while, I've decided to finally go down the rabbit hole of 3 gun. I am dead set on running in the heavy metal division, but I am lacking a 308 rifle at the moment.
Having recently spent some time behind a DPMS G2 MOE, I am leaning heavily in that direction. That being said, I am open to suggestions.
I like the compactness and light weight of the G2, but I can certainly handle more of each at 6' 210#.
Cost isn't too big of a factor either as my gun dealer buddy usually sells to me for just a fraction over distributor prices.
Basically I'm asking if any of you have run a heavy metal match (or really any limited class) and what would be your criteria for a base gun?

No help for ya Monk, but I have a new pic. I broke out all the Dillon stuff and set up for .223. I'd done all my 6.8 stuff on a Forster, but need to work up a few thousand .223 and .308 now so I don't have to do so much as the summer goes on.

Since I haven't used the Dillon in a year, I took some time to clean it and check for wear and tear... which there was none. Anyways, did 50x .223 rds just to warm up. I can do about 300rds an hour when motivated, but tonight I went slow and just tried to get the feel back.

These are 55gr Hornady FMJ's, LakeCity Brass, CCI 400's, 21.5gr RL10x... a light load for plinking.

I'm gonna work up some soft-point hunting rounds tomorrow and get down to business with those 55gr all-copper bullets finally.

Made 312 7.62 155 grain bullets yesterday and ordered 100 rounds of 7.62x54r just for the brass. Going to slug the chamber on the Mosin sniper and see how far to size them. I did buy some gas checks but I am thinking of experimenting with some gallery loads so I don't know if I will be using them at this time.

It's pretty decent. I have put a couple hundred rounds through it with no problems. It is nice and compact for a trunk gun in a Miata.

That being said, getting it at a premium cost over list was not my best move. I should have kept the Garand in the golf bag in the trunk. It just fit

Here's a pic of those Copperheads...
Also, picked up another .308 mag ($18 at my LGS for the 20rd PMAG) and a lb of 3031, which I hadn't seen in a store in over a year.

I'm trying to decide what to get next, so many choices. Part of me wants a S&W 625 JM because they are awesome to shoot, and I don't currently have a 45. Not much use beyond the range, though. The other part says I should get a S&W 69 because it would be really useful for carrying in the high country, lugging a N frame around gets old sometimes & I usually wish I had a little more gun than my 686 when I'm up there. Decisions...
