11/14/09 Midlantic/NE Dyno Day!

Planning another dyno day for the fall since lots of peeps didn't have time to get their cars together for the spring dyno day. Same location in DE and details to follow.

Just getting the word out early so you guys can finish up your projects and get ready.

Please post if you think you'll be coming/dynoing/hanging out/etc... Depending on interest, it could be just a dyno day, if we have more peeps can organize food/karting/etc as well.

ArtieParty 09-16-2009 09:51 AM

I'm down for just coming to hang out. My car needs a new engine (burning oil) and i know I wont have a new one in by then.

neogenesis2004 09-16-2009 09:59 AM

HOOOOOORAY! Hopefully I have the new hotness in and running 20psi by then. If I can't fit it in then I'll come up running the stocker at 15psi.

Braineack 09-16-2009 10:00 AM

Come on, Neo and I are going to build our motors between now and then and make it. don't be a slacker.

ArtieParty 09-16-2009 10:06 AM

You have another cheap motor for me to use? I need to start looking for one. Not wasting money to build a motor and I cant reuse this one.

y8s 09-16-2009 10:07 AM

scott and brian: build mine too.

Braineack 09-16-2009 10:11 AM

haha. lets do it!

Get off the fence and get your parts. Gonna take some extreme motivation to put together all these motors in a month.

brucew 09-16-2009 10:19 AM

I'm in.

So that's at least one v8 that will be there. I wonder if Jason will bring his too.

you're right. never happen for mine. i haven't even bought gaskets.

thirdgen 09-16-2009 10:39 AM

I haven't had a whole lot of time to work on my car lately, but I should have my LS2 Miata running on the 150 nitrous wet shot by then.
Just kidding guys.
Actually I am trying to get my new MS project with AbeFm's PNP adapter board to work. Since I have until November, I think I'll have my shit together.
So for this moment:
Be There: If my car is running perfect on the MS.
Dyno Run: Same as above.

FRT_Fun 09-16-2009 10:50 AM

If I am home in time YES I WILL BE THERE! I may be miataless if I can't get my Miata to NY from Chicago... but if I can just hang out and be annoying with questions and such it would be awesome.

TurboTim 09-16-2009 12:57 PM

I put it on my calendar! There's a chance I'll run something different but I don't know what yet. Tom, if you do a post of who's coming, also include their setup if possible. You will be running your new car, right?

Braineack 09-16-2009 12:59 PM

engine parts ordered. now to get er done.

ArtieParty 09-16-2009 01:07 PM

I hate you guys. I've been looking for an engine now and have leads on 2 or 3 so far. I guess its time to start ordering seals and stuff.

God, I hate peer pressure.

Braineack 09-16-2009 01:09 PM

haha. I gotta wait til Neo builds and pulls his, cause I gave him my spare motor to put together, then I'll be building the one he pulls out of his current car.

I'm just doing a little refresh with good rings. nothing major, It wouldn't be me if i didn't half ass and jew it.

neogenesis2004 09-16-2009 01:29 PM

I'm just waiting on pistons to come in the mail. And Brad to move in to his new place so we can turn his garage into our speed shop :P

tyson87 09-16-2009 01:30 PM

buiild a 1.8 u vagina

neogenesis2004 09-16-2009 01:40 PM

Why, so I have to spend the extra money on the block and head, etc....

I was hitting 18psi at 3400rpm (accidentally) before setting up my ebc in adaptronic. This is on my 1.6... Now I'm putting together another 1.6 with b6t pistons, better moly rings, mtuned rods, and billet OP gears. And I didn't spend over $900 total. So I'll still hit max boost before any of the vaginas on this forum, and I'll be running around 20psi to max out my t3 60trim and making around 300whp.

I don't care who you are, if you say you can build a 1.8 for the same as a 1.6 when you started with a 1.6, you are a retard. I would have to buy the block, buy a NB head, make/buy a new manifold. Hello, thats at least $1k extra. Its not like I'm not already making face melting power with my 1.6.

But keep the thread on course and be jealous you can make it to our dyno day. Otherwise I will have to beat you into submission.

Mach929 09-16-2009 08:45 PM

i gotta fix my heap now since i broked it. Anyone know the greddy hp record?

Braineack 09-16-2009 09:19 PM

I havent heard of more than 250 from Ben.

Mach929 09-16-2009 09:49 PM

right i remember that but i never felt it was an accurate measurement. reason: supposedly on a lower reading dyno he made 255whp with 14psi, a smaller exhaust and smaller intercooler, where as i made less at 15psi on a dynojet with better exhaust and intercooler and more timing

fmowry 09-17-2009 06:57 AM

I'll take the over on neo, y8s and braine being back together by 11/14.

I'm doing an alignment on my car this weekend, looming under the hood and going for some logging runs. Interior is all in except for a box for my ECU to sit on the floor under the carpet. 11/14 looks good for me. Not sure I want to run my RA1s up to the event in November though. My bald ES100s will make a nice burnout vid though.

Frank

miataspeed2005 09-17-2009 07:54 AM

I'm in if it's not too far from milford, ct. I gotta get the address and mapquest it. And I really don't wanna be the slowest car there *tear*

miataspeed2005 09-17-2009 08:02 AM

Just checked around 250 miles, not bad. I'll see if some ct people wanna ride in a group, hopefully it doesn't rain

It probably does nothing! Car felt the same after I swaped compressor wheels and rebuilt it. Hopefully my tune it's good, car is tuned by me so we will see

you do remember the exhaust falling out right?

neogenesis2004 09-17-2009 11:03 AM

I've logged another 1k miles without another occurrence. I think you can call that problem temporarily solved. I'm going to be sticking a vband there to eliminate the slip joint. Thus permanently fixing the slipping slip joint issue.

Braineack 09-17-2009 11:32 AM

Hey, I wasn't there when said exhaust issue happened. When I pulled the system out it was in one piece!

neogenesis2004 09-17-2009 12:03 PM

It was the stiffness of the flexes. Like 100ft from Frank's place there was a crucial dip in the asphalt and I hit and BANG. The slip joint came right out and the car was LOUD. We turned around and went back, jacked the car up, retightened the clamp, broke the clamp from "overtightening", frank too off his exhaust tip and gave me one of his clamps, I put it on and tighted the f@ck out of it again to crush the slip part of the joint. Holding strong ever since.

Mine only gained 10hp. Not the bang for the buck I was looking for.

Mach929 09-17-2009 12:28 PM

how much boost were you running? i think you'll start to see the advantages with higher boost like 18psi+

Sits at 15psi now. Thanks to the new WG, now that was $$$ well spent durring the turbo rebuild.

Now all he's gotta do is throw some carpet over his ECU and his car is done, right? :giggle:

Frank

i made sure to stomp a lot to test the reliability of this setup.

also, he needed to uncheck his "fix timing at 15 degrees" box. I bet EGTs on the drive home were like 1800F the whole time. my leg was crispy.

neogenesis2004 09-17-2009 03:57 PM

Both have been fixed ladies, carry on.

Your only making 200whp at 15psi?!

AlexO35 09-17-2009 08:04 PM

Ah, I was hoping for another. Missed the first round. Hopefully I can get it together for this time.... The redneck-charger will tear it up!

thirdgen 09-18-2009 12:18 AM

Yo Alex, you better show up this time. Also I hope to hit 240rwhp this time with my SR20 T25. If I have my EBC hooked up and the new MS works good, it better happen on 14psi. If not, I guess I'll just have to blow smoke all over the place again when I left off the gas.

Braineack 09-18-2009 09:15 AM

This is why I'm going to to try to rebuild my motor fast beforehand. That dyno Fubared my shit in May.

Sureeeee, blame the dyno.......

Braineack 09-18-2009 09:23 AM

yep. seems to work...

AlexO35 09-18-2009 10:01 AM

No reason I shouldn't make this one. I have a few more things to do to get my IATs down so I can tune timing a bit more. That's all details though. It'll be nice to see what numbers I'm putting down. I'd like to turn up the boost if I can.

trying to clear out to mosquitoes for you...jeez.

evank 09-18-2009 11:00 PM

I'm in. Last fall I broke the PCV (smoke everywhere!); last spring I had a scheduling conflict.

Current projects: COPS; give idle to MS.

Projects since last successful dyno (fall '07!): BEGI FMIC, BEGI-ported WG, MBC set @ 15psi vs. mere WG 9psi/creepage, replaced leaky CAS o-ring, big aluminum radiator.

Still hoping to beat FM's MSM "Big Enchilada" results: http://www.flyinmiata.com/tech/dyno_...tock_turbo.pdf.

You will.

Faeflora 09-21-2009 07:58 PM

I'll try to make it this time. Hopefully with a new engine. I'll try to take pics of the herculean task (for me) that will be pulling my old engine and installing the new one.

brgracer 09-30-2009 09:56 AM

Aite, I reserved the date with the dyno place. $65 for four pulls with wideband, and just like in the past, they will let us do more than four pulls with some tuning in between at that price as long as we don't abuse it. Some guys have gotten on and off after four pulls, and some have done 7-8 pulls with map adjustments in between. Just to be clear, this is NOT a tuning session, but just throwing that out there so #1 you are ready with multiple maps/etc and #2 peeps don't bitch about the price b/c I can't do anything about it.

Secondly, at least 5-6 of us will be taking off the Friday before 11/13/09 to go indoor kart racing. It's ~$125 for all you can kart between 11am-11pm. It's here Welcome to MidAtlantic Grand Prix - Home of Racing Excitement and while it says $99 for the all you can kart, that's the membership price and membership is ~$25. As the date gets closer, if you are interested, PM me.

Braineack 09-30-2009 10:00 AM

My membership is still valid from May, win!

Newbsauce 09-30-2009 10:59 AM

Beer swap Friday night after karting? I've got some fun burrs.

y8s 09-30-2009 11:44 AM

did someone say beer?

Braineack 09-30-2009 11:48 AM

beer? i heard huge plasma and video gamez, also remember being too exhausted to play them last time :(

Newbsauce 09-30-2009 11:55 AM

Plasma and video games are no fun without beer and vodkas. I demand beer and BBQ.
