Oh and I'm running modified - really only because there were no other competitors in the other RWD classes that season. Mudflaps are a generic set from Oh really's, they have a Ford oval on them so I turned them around ! No personal experience with the Coopers but they look like they have a decent open tread pattern with plenty of edges for bite. Good Luck !

The mud flaps on my car I made from polyurethane from mcmaster-carr. I don't remember the exact specs, but something like this: McMaster-Carr

I think the Prepared Rear national champion has been a miata for the last 4 years. Sam Henry from Springfield, MO

The 93LE is getting converted to a stock class rallyx car.

What an awesome story. I subbed. So jealous.

I'm a loser who cares a ton about the paint. Wish I had another whip to rally.

Here's a video from last year:

DJI Phantom Car Chase Cam!! Hawaii Rally-X Dec. 7, 2013 - YouTube

I own the white GC and the yellow Miata. The Miata has been really easy to maintain and has been more reliable than the GC.

I might need to buy a cheap, beat miata soon.

With the 1.8L and Jackson racing supercharger, I have almost too much power everywhere on any rally-x surface. But occasionally, for fractions of a second, I have enough grip to not spin the tires. So obviously an M62 supercharger is in the works, because more power is more better...

IMHO a stock miata is woefully underpowered for rally-x. But maybe I'm crazy?

I can confirm - you are crazy !

In thick thick mud, we had to rape laz's 1.6 in 1st and 2nd to keep it from bogging down. We had a collapsed lifter for a while afterwords. This was very stock with a JR header. A MS would of helped, not sure what kind of intake I'd have to design to keep dirt and water out while still flowing well enough.

See pics of my solution here:

I now have a K+N Prefilter condom on the filter now as well:

Seems to keep dust and dirt out, but we haven't had a super mudfest event like the photos you posted.

I agree with the 1.6 needing more torque not to bog, 20wtq would help a lot.

One of the local forum guys is doing this. He has been working on getting good suspension travel.

Post up any pics, vids, tips, tricks, etc!

I drive/built the #101 car posted above
My tips and tricks are

1. Good shocks/dampers- I've rebuilt and revalved Bilsteins. I still haven't found the "ideal" setup, but I can can say that my chassis is never upset and the wheels stay firmly planted to the ground. My car is incredibly stable and controllable on any surface. There's a little too much low speed compression still. Shock dynos will be posted later.

2. Chassis bracing/stiffening- My car has a miatacage spec miata cage in it. It has made a considerable difference. Some good frame rails, roll bar, and other braces will do if there isn't a full roll cage. The weight these items add will be more than offset in time gained by their benefit.

3. Tires- We all knew this already though. Right?

4. LSD- It's a must! I'm using a Kaaz. Before the car had a 1.6 viscus lsd that seemed to work better than most people imply. I never felt like I was losing an time because of it. The clutch lsd is definitely better suited for rally though.

Brake control has proved to be helpful as well. Stoptech pads have worked very well for me for rallycross.
Power isn't everything, but a BP4W run by a MS3X has provided me with ample torque.
There's probably more that I'm forgetting.

Hey thanks for joining the discussion! I would be interest in your shock graphs, might move out of stock class in the future.

And some more pics I found.
