On this side of the pond we have Retro, Endurance & Lanes Rally's along with Autotest's. These tend to be quite rough and slippery, but don't require full FIA regulation adherence, so quite a lot of fun.

Here are some photo's to give you an idea of the surfaces...

awesome pics. in for closer look at hydro e-brake setup & maybe videos.

Piers14 12-10-2014 03:25 PM

Thanks, We are not allowed to take videos, so can't post any (to keep the regulators away), but I'll see if I can find some photos of the e-brake setup..

That looks like an incredible amount of fun! Awesome.

Piers14 12-10-2014 05:54 PM

Thanks.. It's really is the most amazing fun.. Extremely addictive.. And the best part is the Miata/MX-5 is really well suited to the task.. Could do with greater ground clearance, but it has just enough to have some fantastic tail out fun.. I compete against some better suited rally cars and the Miata really hold's up to the challenge well, much to their surprise..

In the midwest they salt our roads to rid them of the snow/ice. I was thinking if I wanted to do ice racing or winter rally-x, I would pull the suspension bits & weather-proof coat them + undercarriage as well as apply sealant to the paint. What do you guys think?

ECB12 01-13-2015 11:35 PM

What kind of suspension setup are you running?

x2 on this. I have a couple friends who dd their "summer" cars. And they use some sort of weather proofer sealant.

Sounds like a great recipe to create a rusty miata...

My rallycross car was a Michigan car all of it's life, with previous owners driving though the winter. It is SUPER RUSTY! I had to replace the drivers floor pan, both frame rails, both front fenders, trunk and a door due to rust.

My turbo car was a California car all of it's life - what a difference!!

My son and I have been using this stock 1999 Miata for Rallycross for the past year. We compete mostly in the Middle Georgia and Atlanta SCCA Regions, but have been to Alabama and Tennessee also.

My son Matt won our class at the 2014 Dynatorch SCCA SE National Challenge in this car.

Detailed information can be found at Rallycross Miata Project - Mostly MIATA

I enjoy Rallycross more than Autocross!

A friend of mine just started Rally Crossing in the SC area, were you at the last ATL one? He and his girlfriend drove a black beater civic.

Yes, I attended the last Atlanta Region Rallycross in December 2014. I was able to beat Matt by less than a second.

This is Matt at an Atlanta Region event after eating a cone.

We plan to attend the all the Atlanta and Middle Georgia Region's Rallycross events in 2015. I also hope to get to go to other SE regions on occasion.

Here's some pics about a year ago of my 95 gettin' some sideways action. Serious the BEST car I've ever rallycrossed. With a good set of Blizzacks it rips.

So all you really need for this stuff in some winter/ice tires? Combining some of those with that new FM 3" lift kit would allow me to get to work during the winter freak storms!

Goumba 04-23-2016 12:37 PM

All you need to do is enter into an event and drive. If you've never done it before, gaining experience is the most crucial thing. From there I'd recommend good shocks, a LSD, and tires. Even better than car prep is a driver school. I'm a driving instructor at the FIRM. Pretty much no matter how good you think you are, a day or five at the school will completely change your mind on just how valuable learning how to drive at a driving school is. Dirtfish and O'Neil are also good choices. Just get out there and drive!
