Default miata turbo vs. porsche 911 twin turbo!

went to a coastal bend pca event this weekend. had some good battles with vettes and porsche' this 993? 997? turbo porsche has some mods and runs on hoosiers. track config. was 1.6mi. so that probably helped me a little. but braking later and getting on the gas sooner takes away his power advantage. anyway's i took a warm up lap, pulled into the hot pit lane, turned on my lap timer, and waited for someone to play with. after this they did timing and with open track i ran 1.5 sec. faster than this session with the porsche. was fun to say the least. i almost gave up after getting held up by the 914, didn't think i was going to be able to catch up, but figured hell, if i can atleast catch up before the session was over it would be awesome, let alone gap'em after the pass!

Looked like much fun...

What gauge panel is that you're using?

not sure, i think it's some cheapo gauge pod. came with the car when i bought it. shitty part is i can't remove it because it looks like someone used an icepick or shank to make a hole in the dash for the wiring! lol

Did they let you run with the adult groups or did they decide that since you had a Miata, you had to run in novice and intermediate?

no, this was instructors group. i'm a porsche club driving instructor. when this coastal bend region of the pca was based in corpus christi, my buddies and i ran it. i was chief driving instructor back then. we all run nasa time trials together too, but i missed all but one event this year, due to problems with my car or work schedule bullshit. so i haven't been on track with this guy since aug. '08 nasa at tws. back then i was on dunlop star specs and still hung somewhat close, but he claimed his boost controller was messed up and was running low boost. but i'm going to every one next year though. especially if we do the miata challenge on the sat. of each nasa event. i even have a spare car just in case.
they did put me in blue or red group (not yellow) once at a pca event at hhr. i almost lapped the entire group (all porsche except me), it was awesome and shitty at the same time. they moved me right after that. some of those guy's were really upset.

Cool. Unfortunately I have to run novice at the s2k HHR event because I don't have a "driving resume" because I've never competed formally.

Lol I was in that 914, it sucked being in such a slow car with so many fast cars on track. I really need to get back into running events regularly, I had a ton of fun in a borrowed car. I've got hustleritis; now that my miata is boosted I'm afraid I'm gonna break it if I track it.
BTW most intense moment of the day: a deer ran across the track about 20 yards ahead of me.

Hustleritis! LOL. Just grow a set. A touch of mechanical empathy goes a long ways when running 200-250hp.

Just email Sondra or H2R, they'll group you appropriately if you let them know your HPDE experience.

I may have to run down to JC autospec to get my car tech'd because no one will pass it in Dallas.

woops...meant accelerometer

talking about the little pup on the suction cup

Looks like it tells you just how hard you're going into the turn.

Gonna schedule it the Friday before the event?

I haven't decided on JC or on taking another route.

Why won't your car pass, and what events will it not pass for?

I tried to run a 1-day TDE event about 6-months ago where I had to tech at a BMW dealer. They charged $149 for the tech and would not pass it because they tought my brake fluid was bad (so they wanted to flush it for $200), they thought the tires didn't have enough rubber (even though I don't run the street rubber I showed up with), they wanted wrap around every wire in the car, and they wanted additional heat sheilding on the turbo. This is why I need a real shop to tech the car for the s2k event at HHR next month.
