Default My trip to Haiti- Photos inside...

Wanted to post in the Media section incase anyone didn't see the thread i created a bit ago about me considering a trip to Haiti. Which can be found here:
https://www.miataturbo.net/insert-bs-here-4/how-dangerious-haiti-right-now-got-offer-i-cant-refuse-47571/

Crazy experience, i can't even type the things i saw with my own eyes over the internet. Saw some of the most disgusting things human beings had to live in. I got sick on Friday night, was throwing up for a solid 9 hours or so. Diarrhea like no other, in fact i'm still peeing out of my ***.

I am glad i went, as scared as i was i am glad. The little "donate a dollar for Haiti" bull **** in safeways and local grocery stores aren't helping at all. About 50% of the plane was full of volunteers/doctors and military personals from various country's. These people are the ones helping the country out.

One of the camps i went too had aprox 7,000 Haitians in a size about the size of a football field or two. I can't really remember because i was looking through the lens and tearing up at the conditions these people had to live in. There was a lady who was washing her ***** or shots in muddy water while sitting in mud in 85* heat who replied to me "better than ever" when i asked how she was. She was so happy to just be alive and living. It really brings life into perspective for someone to see something like this.

I could go on for hours rambling on about the culture and how touched i was but i doubt any of you want to even hear it. Anyways, on to the pictures since i know we all like those.

This picture was taken in the compound i was staying in that taught children english and had some art classes:

These were off my personal camera, so the shots from the really sad camp will come later when i meet with my friend who funded the trip. I was using my canon 550D with a 50 1.8 and 10-22EFS lens. His shots were all on a 7D w/ 24-105L or one of my lenses.

Sad sad stuff.

Edit:
Beer for under a dollar is pretty sweet though, you can also ride motorbikes while drinking which was pretty fun.

Nice to see someone getting out and doing something when they see a need.

That's unfortunate. I wish I could do more for people in need. Maybe one day I'll have that opportunity.

Respect to you guys and I hope the documentary turns out great.

You just look at the pictures and wonder what's going to happen to those kids over the next 10-15 years or so.

Some good shots, wish you had some more portraits. Those, I think, really capture what they are going through over there. What were you doing when you went?

This kid is probably going to die, or is dead by now. He contracted those lumps in two days and was getting worse and worse everyday.

7,000 people are living in these conditions..

Again, the pictures can be found here:

This could just about be one of those Boston.com "Big Picture" photo essays. Beautiful photography of sobering subject matter.

Pictures and general topics like this make me want stronger benefits for people affected by disaster, and more severe penalties for abusing it.

less "benefits" more "aid" and i guess less "aids" while we are at it. but yes, agrees.

Reminds me of this little girl. She died after being trapped for days.
