Yeah, I guess it isn't old enough for grandfather status. What about the Pantera? Its not the oldest, but it certainly stands out as a different kind of car for its time. To me a super car isn't just fast, it has to be a bit insane as well.

Those others aren't old enough to be but middle aged parent cars to the McLaren.
The Real Grandfather: The Ferrari 275 GTB/4
165mph in 1967 with a 3.3 liter 60 degree V12, 300hp, six two-barrel Weber carburetors, in a street car.
This is the car which legend and myth says was the car that Claude LeLoach used in the underground classic short film "C'etait un Rendezvous." In that short film a crazed run is made through the city of Paris in the early morning hours at over a hundred forty miles an hour, running red lights, scraping past crossing traffic and dodging pedestrians. Later speculation said the car was possibly different, but we can dream in our car loving hearts. The Ferrari 275 GTB is, however, actually verified as being used as the soundtrack to the film. Pretty noises... Sound up and be sure to click the little x in the lower right to full screen the video. I'm offering this classic video specifically because of the young supercar virgins that appear to be in our midst. I've seen it dozens of times and don't tire of it. Count the red lights he runs.

However I see it more a golden age or classic era car. The GTO was built in the mid-80s, after the mid-70s to early-80s lull in performance (quality and visual impact), making it part of the modern era. - The search was for the Grandfather of the Modern Supercar...
