Default 1.8 turbo project underway!

Hi all,

I've had my '97 1.8 M-edition for a couple of years now and although it's great fun (especially in the wet), it needs a little extra something, so the turbo project is underway.

Budget ~$3k, target is good drivability and >180whp if possible. Only got as far as ordering a Megasquirt 2 kit and wideband O2 so far, planning on getting those in and running with some bigger injectors before I really screw things up by adding the turbo.

Already I'm in huge debt to the experts on this forum , speccing the MS2 took some serious reading and I know it'll take some effort to get it hooked up properly (parallel install, aim is to pass the NC OBD2 inspection), but hey, I'm a geek so it's an interesting challenge!

I'll try to keep up a build log with pics as I make progress, as I hope others can learn from my mistakes.

I think your goals are achievable with your budget, just keep in mind that budgets and goals are always going to change.
Think tires, suspension, brakes, rollbar etc.

You are going the right way by MS first then turbo, saves you money in the long run.

I am of no help to a parallel instal, I had it easy owning a 94.

Best of luck, and get busy!

Hey Benm,

I did just what you're planning to do.

MS2 + injectors and only then turbo.

I have DIYPNP installed with 460cc RX7 injectors in my 97 turbo.

Good luck !

Thanks for all the encouragement, sounds like I'm on the right track. Eagerly awaiting my kit so I can get started!
