Hello from the lubbock tx area! Im William, and I currently own a 2002 miata with the convenience package, salt induced weight reduction, and lots of adhd ridden half done details because it makes me feel happy. Ive currently had 5 miatas so far, and got my first miata about 3 years ago now. It was a 1990 na that had -19 degrees of camber, a straight pipe, no room for even my pinkie under the car, and a “leaky rad hose” that turned out to be a waterpump job! It was beyond bad. I did my best to unclap it, but in the end sold it off for profit somehow. The second miata was a black 1994 m edition with a hardtop! Halfway home it started overheating, the next day i learned it was a 1.6 swapped 94 car, to which i immediately sold for almost breakeven- hardtop included because i hadnt formed my hyperfixation/had it long enough to deal with the problems I was surely destined to face. The third miata was the one that changed me. I hated nb’s. “Why would anyone want that? It doesnt have popups and looks dumb!” I used to say. This 99 nb1 was too good to pass up. Rusty as could be but that didnt bother me, it still drove and i was itching for a miata. (The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd miatas were owned in 3 consecutive days). I absolutely fell in love. Felt faster, was smooth, zippy, had creature comforts and a more comfortable interior. I kept it for about 3 months before finding an na in my dream color, midnight purple. Well kind of. It was a black basecoat rattlecanned and a purple blue shift tigerstriped over it. This was a crumb at the back of my bread mind. My impulsivity runs unmedicated and rampant, and i drove 13 hours to arkansas to get it. 13 hours back with no ac, bucket seats, harnesses, and nothing behind the header. This hurt my brain a bit. This car was the car i owned when i started the miatas of lubbock facebook group here in lubbock! I made a ton of friends, meets ,hangouts,cruises the group has amassed 128 members as of today, but all very active and we’ve become good friends, talking in the group chat everyday. After owning the na for about 6 months, i got an offer i couldnt refuse, bad piston rings, cracked oil pan that the previous owner jb welded, a host of other problems. The day i sold it i drove to kansas for my beloved nb2. Upon arriving I found rust on the quarters and arches. I begrudging bought it( kind of) it drove beautifully, had even more creature comforts like keyfob and a better sound system. I remember thinking man this thing can actually move in 5th gear???? That vvt brought it to life. This car had been repainted a beautiful blue color, well polished but not well masked. Ive done so much maintenance, swapped differentials over 10 times (another story) had the trans out 3 weeks in a row, and so much more. I have front arches to weld in, but before i fix the rust, i saved up to put my real dream color on it, a beautiful midnight purple by 3m. I wrapped the car in a hot garage in 2 days. Ive enjoyed it like this for almost a year, briefly having it on air suspension for a week before selling it. (Was terrible ride quality) ive torsen swapped it, swapped the 5 speed out for a lower milage unit. Recently I got a hardtop from a junkyard for 200$ selling it for 1700 to a friend making payments to me (was perfect paintmatch to his 2004 nb we went and picked up as a daily for his bagged nd1.) ive slowly been using it for turbo parts, and im only 150$ away as of right now! Ive got a speedyefi in it, tuned on e85 with 1000cc injectors. She runs well, smokes a tad after 6k. Ive replaced the head as i bent valves with a homemade flame kit, then replaced the valves again after not learning my lesson (head survived second time). Ive put the same amount of wiper blades on the car as headgaskets! She sits as of right now rid of her spec d headlights - if spec d has no haters im dead. With custom bi led projector stock headlights i made for 60$
i have very much had different phases with my tastes, but got rid of the bad ones very quick. I value good maintenance, i value ride quality, creature comforts, no rattles, no oil leaks, a smooth running car. i very much value tone over volume. Its safe to say the cars i got first very much pushed me to have the tastes i have.
I think the next step after turboing the car is tig welding. I love how it looks, its an art and i want to learn and do it. I love welding and fabricating. Almost current First Second Third 4th Current when i got
