Default Better off here?

Hey, I'm Adam.
Bought a '91 about 6 months ago with a "rebuilt engine/trans". They both seem strong and my normal mechanic said it checked out with his tests so....
Coil overs
Motor mounts (derlin driver side, 80 durameter passenger)
Energy suspension bushing kit and diff mounts
Mst rims with some cheap toyo's to last until now.
New header and exhaust to a not rusted out stock muffler. No cat
New pads and rotors (stock)
New plugs, wires, fluids and filters
Aside from those major parts I stopped all rattles, leaks and squeaks. New rear finish panel and a couple lights and housings. Starts up perfect and the injectors seem to be the only noise I can hear. I also went the plastidip (commence with the ricer comments) route since I could get it for 5 dollars a can and the poor car was 6 different colors....

Now!!! That was my first 'all be myself' attempt at making a car decent again. I had full intentions of keeping it stock and slow and just having fun but now that the suspension is buttoned up and I've gotten used to the car, I want to turbo it. My buddy is going to stand by my side the entire way and 'hold my hand' so as to make sure this little car doesn't burst into flames. Despite being small and under powered, all my gear head friends want to hand me their keys so they can drive it so they want to make sure it stays reliable too.
That being said, they've put me out on my own to get a parts list, do research and get all the tools I need which is where you guys come in. I don't want to go cheap but I do want to save money where I can. I know some solid brands that I'm going to try and grab major parts from but I don't know where I can skimp ie IC piping? Can I get cheapo piping through whole sale or does it need a special rating? I know I need a turbo kit, rear end/axles/shaft, the same buddy is going to wire in and tune a MSPNP he has laying around when it comes to that time, and a few regulators. My real questions are:
-who on here has done a budget build with good parts that I should follow? (garret ball bearing with off the shelf piping or rx7 oem parts as upgrades)
-Should replace the rear end and clutch before I turbo it so as to make sure all the parts jive?
-How do YOU search? So far my terms haven't been getting too far.
'turbo kit needs?' 'pieces in turbo kit' 'turbo support mods' etc...

Here's where she started:

Now I'm here and ready for more power... I think...

Feel free to tell me I need other things or to keep researching but that's what I'm here to do so it would be nice to at least be pointed in the right direction.

Your motor mount idea is a bad one.

Welcome!

Why is that? On my other forum, a lot of NA guys have done a stiffer one on driver side than passenger. Are you talking about the Derlin? I'm debating on switching that one out with a mazdaspeed one when the turbo goes on but right now it's not that bad.

It's "Delrin," and Delrin is too hard for motor mounts in these cars. So is 80A durometer poly.

I'm really not trying to come off as rude but is that the Miata elitist inside you talking? I've been told multiple times that the 80 would be fine and that the delrin was pushing it (and for 10 dollars it's not like it'll hurt to get new ones). Like I said though, for now it's not rattling the car to death and there are plans to replace it. I don't drive it hard so I hope it's not going to hurt the engine?

I'm not a Miata elitist. I'm still not even sure if i like Miatas.

You're being told multiple times that 80A will be fine by people who don't own Miatas.

In light of that, you can question what we tell you all you want, but it won't make us think you're worth helping.

Here's your mount options:

1) Stock (sucks)
2) Mazdacomp (sucks, but slightly less)
3) AWR/Supermiata 70A mounts (Stiff, but you'll hate life and will have to replace nuts and bolts that will fall out weekly)
4) Delrin (you're ******* retarded)

There's some grey area in there with the Revshift poly mounts that seem to be decent, but still based on the flawed factory design that seems to rip before i can make it out of my driveway. And there's the matter of whether or not you'll even get the goods you pay for.

But your friends sound like they're really familiar with Miatas. Ask them if they've used Delrin/billet mounts on their Hondas. If it's ok for them, it's probably ok for you.

Woah now, I said other forums but not which ones. They are in fact MR and CR so I'd hope they know something about Miatas...
Also, whether you like it or not, I'm here working on a car. I may seem worthless to you but that's the joy of the internet right? Talk **** to people you don't know and never have to face them...

BACK TO THE REASON WE'RE HERE!!
Thanks for the advice mm wise. I'll do some more research to double check what you've said but know that I'm not writing you off. I'm simply doing research in its most basic form. Take a new-to-you fact, question it, test it, move on.

Saying people on CR know Miatas is like saying 3rd graders understand mathematics. You are correct, but not exactly referencing the most sophisticated source.

Budget $4000 and buy/install IN THIS ORDER:
  1. 1.8 swap + FM1 clutch
  2. megasquirt + wideband
  3. EV14 injectors (FIC or ID)
  4. FMII "No Electronics" kit with Garrett GT2560R & delete the FM intercooler
  5. eBay intercooler
  6. FM 2.5" exhaust to match
  7. tune

This should net 250hp relatively safe and reliable HP. You can't go wrong with Flyin' Miata (FM.) You can save money or you can do this right, its up to you. I recommend you save up and not halfass this. Feel free to search any of the words in my list to understand more of what you are getting into.

IT CAN BE DONE!!!

Ok, I like it. I have the MS, and ebay IC from my old mini and I can get my exhaust done for free at the oh so famous "buddies shop". Now that you know that, what would be a new number budget wise, roughly? If I stuck with my 1.6, will things be more expensive than jumping to the 1.8?

That's the one bone you get from me. I've helped with a foundation, now build on it. Welcome

Holy ****... do my eyes deceive me??

I will look into sourcing a new engine and what else I would need for it. Otherwise, everything I've read so far says the 1.6 can handle boost just fine. Also, I like the 1.6 novelty... If I can keep up with 1.8T I'll feel all the better, I'll just have to find someone who has a worse tune than me.

Does it have the same "12 psi" boost rating?

If I can squeeze one more dick out of you...
Would I be able to do everything you stated minus the things I have for around $2500? I was hoping to buy used bits where I can and new major components. (used boost fuel regulator but new injectors or a used rear end with new lsd)

Eh, to each his own. Should have expected it from a new gen. owner.

Thanks for the help though. I'll check into it.

I'm not familiar with such a thing. Tell us what you mean and maybe we'll be able to answer your question.

Ignore him, it's just the rich people who can afford the 99+ Miatas looking down at the rest of us.
