Default Can I get a Woot Woot!

Hi All,

I am somewhat new to the forums. I have been lurking in the background for the past few months just reading on certain subjects and what not regarding engine upgrades parts to buy, who to stay away from, cough ebay cough!

Just to give you a bit of info about my miata, it is a a 2000 miata which for the most part is stock except for the (Monster Flow Intake) I was able to pickup. I must admit that was one of my better purchases thus far in regards to car parts.

This is my first project car and I am excited to get to work on it! I plan on doing most of the mods myself or with the help of a friend who is a true gearhead and has tossed in a turbo into his ford escort. Yes, I said escort.

My goal in my miata life is to give the car some major cajones by tossing in a t3/t4 turbo. I'm shooting for at least up to 250+ HP on the stock internals, FOR NOW.

I have a majority of the components/parts that I need to upgrading the car. I even have the ground effect kits and rear wing. You know, so that I can gain 10 extra hp from aesthetics alone.

I am new and I do have a good question that perhaps the elite in true gear heads can answer. =)

As I plan on tossing in a t3/t4 turbo, the current 4.10 gear ratio will not cut it. I plan on upgrading my gears to the mazda 626 rear differntials which are 3.636. Now after reading these two web sites I am unsure if this is a straight drop in. If you can help it would be much appreciated.

Welcome to the jungle.

3.636 gears will work but you'll obviously need to set the backlash etc.

The ring and pinion only will cross over to your rear end, not the whole chunk. 250whp is cake on stock internals if everything's dialed in correctly. I'm building a t3/t4 50 trim setup and shooting for 300whp, hopefully more. However, common wisdom is 250whp on a conservative tune is the sweet spot and mostly safe if it's tuned right and your have mechanical empathy.

Thanks Bryce & Pat for the greet. I guess this means I have officially been inducted into the perverbial jungle. =)

Pat,

I am hoping to hit the 300hp+ and beyond as well however, I am sure that will take much more than what I have already invested to get the internals up to par. Not only that but after reading a number of posts regarding blown engines and improper tuning... Truly does send chills down my spine.

I've watched a few you tube posts regarding souped up cars with dual turbos and one dies due to overload. Not only did I hear the Psssssssssssshhhhhhhhhh bang, but also the CHA-CHING!! that is to follow.
