Default Oregon College Noob Finally Introduces Himself

Hi guys, I have been lurking around here for quite a while now and have decided that it is time to formally introduce myself. Around October I believe in 2016 I picked up 1994 black and tan miata with a torsen diff. It also came with a hardtop equipped with the headliner and defrost.

Here was the car the day after I bought it.

Paint could be better, but it had everything that I wanted (torsen diff, ABS, etc) so I am happy with it. I drove the car through my senior year of high school and also got some friends to get Miatas as well which was fun.

Drove it all winter (Portland Oregon Area)

I just wanted to get the car baselined and take care of the interior since it was still decent.

By the end of the summer, I did the timing belt, water pump, front oil seals, coolant reroute, new radiator, and new coolant hoses.

Last week of summer before college.

After my summer ended I went away to college and left my car at home (about 6.5 hours away).

Since I have been back for a little I started doing real mods. So far I have put in my flying Miata Vmax extreme sport coilovers, front and rear sway bar with heavy duty sway bar mounts, and a DIYPNP Megasquirt with an AEM wideband.

Here is my current tune if anyone wants to look at it, I have been on megasquirt for about a month now I'd say. MT.Net dglb99 current tune 07-14-2018.msq.

Also putting in screenshots of the tune if you don't want to download it.

My end goal for this car is a street car first, autocross second, and I don't think it will ever see track time (at least not while turboed, maybe I'll go before that.) Next summer I plan on hopefully doing the clutch and fuel injectors. I plan on going with the flyin miata stage 1 clutch and flow force 640cc injectors. Then hopefully the year after that I can get my turbo kit and finish the car. I plan on going MKTurbo at the moment but I have time to change and think about it. Ideally, I get all the turbo stuff done for 2500 excluding the megasquirt, injectors, and clutch. I want to just kiss 200whp so that I can brag about it but no more than that. That is pretty much my plan for the next 2 or 3 years. Hopefully, you guys approve of my first post and don't roast me!

Welcome to the forum. There's a few regulars on here from your area. You should change it to Oregon College Noob in the title to get the attention of the locals.

I'm glad you have a megasquirt already. And you can't go wrong with MK Turbo.

Where are you going to school?

I added Oregon but it looks like the change needs to be approved I think. Megasquirt is fun, I'm enjoying playing with it. Still got some weird kinks that need to be tuned, and getting the MAT correction and accounting for heat soak has been the most difficult part for me to get right so far. The GM temp sensor is in an aluminum tube right now, I'd like to change it to plastic to prevent some heat soak.

I'm at Washington State University .

Nice to see a fellow student doing the same! Just FYI you can use 400cc+ injectors for ~220whp so ~250 crank hp. That could save a bit of money. I just bought some rx8 injectors (440cc) (2004-2008). That's a really affordable way to go about it, and it's straight plug and play! Good luck

Definitely, something I have thought about. Since this will probably take quite a while to finish right now I'd rather just shell out a little more money for the nice injectors. But I got time to think about it and no commitments yet.

You have done well, dglb99.

This thread makes me think back to my own college years. I was driving a '71 VW Beetle which was just barely holding together.
