Wink Country with 6 Miatas

Hi Everyone ,

I'm Alex , I have a 2003 NB-fl , 1.6 L EU version , got here for getting as much info as possible in order to install a Turbo kit this summer.

I am from Republic of Moldova , the country with 3.5 million people & 6 Miatas only.

There are 2 NC's & 4 NB's in the whole country ... imagine what a star I am when I drive it with the top down ..... people point fingers as if they see a Batmobile .

Hope to learn new things here & make new friends.

Best Regards,

Spare parts are difficult to find , I order some from USA and some from UK ... & it really costs me some $$ for shipping but ... I got more love for the miata then I got for savings )

So , I am looking at 180-200 whp for the 1.6 l , 110 hp engine.

Got 3700$ ... Flyin' miata ; begi or put one together myself?

We don't have shops which specialize in these cool cars so all I have is internet and my own skills and will to spend time on my car.

Thank you.

Is there anything specific you are looking for?
Do you have an idea yet of what you want to build?

Well i know I want boost. I want to keep stock internals and injectors as well.... My rear is ok , got the torsen , new clutch and the transmission is in proper condition as well... I want to gain up to 10 psi .. 7-8 would be acceptable as well...

the voodoo 2 kit from flyin miata looks good to me .... But still not cheap... I would agree on used piping , intercooler , manifold as well ... In order to save money ... But a brand new turbo and the megasquirt are vital to me. I want to keep the EGR as well , wont be legit to remove it in Europe.... All I found on the web was a manifold on begi for 1.6 UK cars which has the egr pipe...

The rest small pieces don't make a lot of difference to me as if installed properly I am sure they will last.

The 1.6 engine is a pretty revy one so I thought it will love some boost + the miata will be less lazier). If get up anything between 170 and 200 whp , i will be happy.

If anyone has setup smth simillar I would greatly appreciate any information , pictures , commenst or advises thank you

Sturovo might be a good option for your turbo kit. He's over in that part of the world I believe. Search that username on here.

Thank's I will check on his profile ... but anyways it is not a problem for me to get the US parts as they are cheaper .... I have a PO box where I can ship orders in USA so I would accept US market ... from EU I might get just the EGR manifold from BEGI UK ....

What are the rules on aftermarket ECUs there? If I were I your position, I would buy an ECU from Reverant, a turbo kit from Sturovo and cruise the strip for dudes.

Hey people ,

I need help .... if someone can spend some time on helping me me I would agree even to pay some $ for it upon agreement.

I have a stock 1.6 L NB 2003 , Europe car.

Got exhaust manifold sturovo , short downpipe , td04 turbo from a WRX , oil feed & return , water lines , intercooler & pipes , gaskests bolts etc ..... all the hardware new and follows to be installed properly ..... willing to reach up to 10 psi , 8 would be fine actually , and 200 whp , 180 also would accept.

I am doing everything by myself so internet is all my help ..... my problem is :

I have no idea and wtf is going on in the ECU world

I read a lot and got to the point of being tired of it .... can someone advise what egine management unit should or should not I buy , what other small aceesories like o2 sensors etc should I get , where to get them cheaper (but reliable) ... how to install properly and how to tune it properly .

I want a clean idle ... boost from 2000-2500 rpm and keep the gas consumption as close as possible to stock when cruising around the city.

Thank you in advance.

Best Regards , NEEEWWWb

Seriously, contact Reverant. He's already posted in this thread. He should be able to set you up with megasquirt and a good base map. Spend some time tuning before you put on any of your turbo parts. Once you get the hang of it and read some more on this forum, then you can install your turbo kit.

As frustrating and NOT instant gratification as it is......this is really good advice.....

The biggest and hardest part of your goal is the tuning..."tuning" is not quite right as we aren't talking about FINE tuning we are talking about whether your expensive and hard to get parts blow up or not...that type of tuning.

Having recently blown 2 motors (not due to tuning) I can tell you it is one of life's least enjoyable experiences!!!!

Tuning sounds easy and the "promise" of help via the internet is all well and good but it can sometimes take days or weeks to get the response you need and often not at all....

Everyone is as helpful as they can be but it is difficult information to pass on and even more difficult to understand and take on board once they do reply.....The MS and ECU section is one of the slowest moving boards here.

Playing around and learning the ropes of the ECU for 6 months in the RELATIVE safety of a non turbo motor is extremely worthwhile.......you wont regret playing safe but you WILL regret not playing safe...

just one mans opinion.

Reverent is your best option for an ECU.
