Miata search is beginning...
Hi.
Long time car guy, SCCA auto-xer, former Tech Chief in Atlanta region. Now father of 4, wanting to get back into motorsports. Life has changed, now I'm 3 hours from a racing venue and life makes it hard to get there. Gave up a few years ago, sold my DIY turbo car with TEC2 ECU, purchased a motorcycle, sold the motorcycle, used money to purchase good family car. So here I am now looking at Miatas.
Goals for now:
Find used Miata to drive in E Stock SCCA Solo2
Needs to be Red 5-speed, near stock is fine
Torsen or other LSD
Condition not as important
Future goals: (still reading for info)
10 lb/hp (former car was about this level)
reliable drivetrain
stock fuel pressure
stock bottom end if possible
larger injectors
turbocharged - intercooled
aftermarket programmable ECU like the TEC2 (Megasquirt?)
light wheels and sticky tires
controlled suspension
So my questions now are surrounding what to look for. Looks like a 94-97 Miata has the 1.8L and better rear end. How do those years differ and how will that effect my future upgrade path. Those answers can only be answered by experienced Miata members and what reserach I can find.
Thanks for reading. Hope I can help sometime. Hope that was coherent. I was interrupted about 4 times by the wife and kids.
