Default Greetings from Mass

Hello, I am new to the forum. Currently finishing up college (mechanical engineer) in Massachusetts, but cars have been a hobby of mine for a while now! I have a 2009 Subaru WRX (Stage 1) that is my daily and that I use for RallyX (One day i will turn it into a stage rally car), and I have my 1990 Miata. Bought it two years ago with 300,000 miles on it, and have been fixing it up ever since! Welded in a new rear quarter, new soft top, repainted it, and did a bunch of maintenance. I am currently turning it into a track/autox car, Ive got a Torsen LSD, Flyin Miata Stage 2 clutch, Eaton M45 supercharger (homebrew kit), MSPNP, Manzo headers, and coilovers all around.
Last week I swapped in a ported and polished head, and a new shortblock. Tonight I will be installing a new SC pulley (as the supercharger I got from a Merc had an 80 mm pulley so it only made about 3 psi of boost), the dual throttle body mod, a mishimoto radiator, and flyin miata sway bar in the front. Hopefully I will have her up and running tomorrow with the supercharger back on, and ready to get dyno tuned again in a few weeks, although I plan to spend the time until then learning how to tune myself. Im here to learn how to tune, and how to make the car faster on a track!
Happy Driving!

Welcome, car looks amazing for 300K on it... nice job with the quarter welding too, started getting into that with a really rusty NB I picked up and quickly realized I was in over my head with that level of body work (and my high standards) so I can appreciate the work that goes into it

Im rather proud of how she looks, considering that paint job was done in a home depot parking lot with a crap ton of rattle cans (she was white before but it was all coming off). The quarter panel looks unnoticeable from 20 feet away, but you can definitely still see the weld/bondo seam from closer. One day I want to get a miata that looks fantastic inside and out, but since this is gonna be a race car, looking good from 20 ft away is all I need.

Howdy Maverick,

I'm up in Maine - which club(s) do you play with?

Im a member of Renegade miata but have run AutoX with New hampshire motor sports, bay state corvette club, all at Devens in Mass, and Cumberland Motor Club up at Loring in Maine! Doing my first track day in 2 weeks with Dynosaur motorsports at Palmer racetrack!

Good deal - I've run with the NER SCCA crew at Devens, SCCNH at Canaan, and attend most of the Cumberland Motor Club Events. CMC doesn't have the schedule set yet, but we're hopeful we'll be getting back into Brunswick Airport this year - big open concrete square. Loring's still on the books, should be Aug 6-8 - when were you there, and in what car?

I'm moving to more time on track, the seat time is definitely worth it - trust you'll have fun at Palmer (I haven't driven there yet, hoping to make an event in July).

I'll be at Canaan with MassTuning Trackfest the same weekend, sticking with a familiar track for my first shakedown of the season. If you haven't driven there yet I recommend it - sweet little track, nice size for Miatas and the rental cost is low so it's only $250/day when MT runs there.

Will keep an eye out for the blue stripes this summer - take care and have fun!

I was at loring last august in this same Miata, back when it was mostly stock (same white and blue stripes, though). It was an awesome course. Im running with renegade at devens this saturday to make sure the car feels good and tied together before my palmer track day, but Im excited for my first time out on a rear track!
Im definitly planning on going to Loring again this year, and will definitly check out the Brunswick airport once CMC has their schedule out. Thanks!

Okay, cool - would you have been # 69 in E-Street?

Glad you had fun, I was the event chair and course designer that weekend. I had a riot driving my BRG NA Miata in XS-B with 3 co-drivers. That car has since been relegated to Winter Daily duty, now driving a white 1992.

Good move using an autocross as a shakedown event, I might come down to Devens with a couple friends for the next Renegade event to make sure their cars are ready to rock before we do their first track events (TNiA at NHMS May 13).

Yup, my girlfriend, my father and myself all drove at Loring that day! The course was well designed, so good job!
I will probably be at the next Renegade AutoX also, so see you there if you happen to be!
