Default Hello from Alabama

Hello, I have been reading the forums for a little while. Finally created an account.
The amount of info here is awesome!

I have a 2001 Miata.
I've owned it for about 10 years, I picked it up from a really nice old vietnam vet and his wife.
I had a Fiesta ST as my daily (recently sold), and the Miata was my weekend project.
It is mostly stock, I have been doing maintenance and comfort mods.
I have been doing all the work myself now that I have a garage and tools.
I recently did wheels/tires/swaybars, and have a roll bar on the way.
Coilovers are on the way but wont be here until Feb.
I'm about to hit 60k miles, I have the timing belt/water pump/seals already - I need to pick up a timing light and I'll do the 60k job.
I am also looking at doing a radiator upgrade/coolant reroute.
I am not sure if I need suspension bushings, I couldn't really tell their condition when I was under there doing sway bars last weekend.
I am pretty sure I need diff bushings, sometimes there is a faint clunk on hard shifts. I just built a workbench and got a vise to tackle that job.

I am hoping to go turbo this year, I am still researching.
I picked up Maximum Boost, I remember hearing about this book over and over in Sport Compact Car mag.
I'm also watching as many vids as I can find about installing a MS3 into an NB2.

My plan based on what I have read here and on carpassionchannel is:
Install MS3 on my current setup, get it running solid
I have loved Flyin Miata as a company for years, so I think that is the setup I would go with
I am thinking of using them for the manifold/turbo/intercooler and piping/etc

Welcome! If you're comfortable piecing things together a bit more (and wait a while)I'd also look into a Kraken setup over FM. There's a lot of peeps here running his stuff. You'll likely get better performance per $
Also, if you're considering bushings look into Sadfab or Supermiata 863 rather than just plain poly as poly binds pretty bad without the bearings.
Installing a standalone isn't nearly as bad as it seems at first, just check your work and be methodical.

Those are the recent tidbits I have to offer . Keep reading and I'm sure you'll get everything sorted nicely

Good info, ty. I will look into the Kraken stuff some more too. I need to look up some install vids for their kits. I like the top mount manifold they make.

Welcome. Where in AL are you? We have a super solid group of guys that are really into making miatas fast haha. If you are anywhere near Birmingham and want to drive a sorted turbo car let me know. I can also help you get your car sorted with parts and whatnot, PM me if you want to talk more about it. I look forward to seeing you around.

That is awesome, I am in Wetumpka right outside Montgomery. Thank you for the offer, I'll probably hit you up about in the future

Does Birmingham still have autocross events? I remember seeing one a few years back, but couldn't find anything about it recently. The closest one I see on SCCA's site is Columbus, MS which is about 3.5 hrs from me.

Yep The Proving Grounds at Barbers still hosts a bunch of events every year. The Miata Reunion is also happening at Barbers this year the week before MATG. There's also going to be an event at TGPR on Jan 29th that all the guys are going to be at as well if you wanted to come hang. If you haven't yet, join the Miatas of Alabama Facebook group it's really active and has everyone from track rats to parts nerds posting all the time.

Another welcome from Alabama! I’m also based in Birmingham. I run Miata Fix; we have part outs and offer some service work as well.

Feel free to reach out if you have questions/want to find locals. The Facebook group Miatas of Alabama is a good one to join.

I’ve got a track nb2 that is slated to get a turbo in the next few months.

Cool, ty for the heads up on the fb group - I just joined.

Glad to hear there are still events going on in AL, first I have heard of TGPR - this place looks fun!

Eventually we will need a sub-forum since things are done a little differently here in Alabama.

Welcome to the green NB club too.
