Default Hello from AZ - NB owner

Hello! I am a 7 year owner of my ever-changing 99 NB 5-speed track toy. I've primarily been over on the other forum m.net and seem to find myself finding the information I need more often from MiataTurbo.net, especially since installing a MSPNP2 recently and going down that rabbit hole.

Long story short, I did a lot of work on the Miata getting it track ready after I purchased it. I did a handful of track day weekends with NASA AZ and was ecstatic how well the Miata performed, but each event had some kind of mechanical failure and I was getting frustrated with my purchase. So sometime in 2016 I put the Miata on jack stands for a near-full chassis teardown and rebuild.... and then let the project sit for 5 years after I lost all energy and passion with it due to other life priorities and goals.

I found my energy on the project again last November 2020, and have been at it hard clearing out my parts shelf, and moving things to the next level. I'm itching for more track time! Since I seem to frequent this site more than m.net now, It seemed appropriate to stop by and say hi. Here's where I'm at now, about done with sensor installs, wiring needs, and adding some power circuitry to run these new toys.

Solid intro thread. Only thing it's missing is pictures of cats.

I'm over in Chandler, and there's other AZ track guys on here as well. I'm in the middle of a huge rebuild, hopefully I can get back on track before the end of the year.

Welcome from Prescott!

I think I was watching your thread on M.net back when you first got the car. Glad to see you're back to it!

I'm also torn down for a cage install at the moment, but hope to be back on track soon. Projects always take longer than you plan for!

Welcome to MT! I remember reading your build thread when I first got my car. Definitely influenced where my car is today.

- Hey man, I'm James - I think I've met you briefly at a NASAAZ event. Nice to meet you on here as well! I've been stuck at HPDE3 due to non-finishes via mechanical failures and not getting that chance to get the thumbs up to next level. I think after all this rebuild work, I'll be reliable and hit HPDE4 with ease. lol, and I'll work on more cat pics.

- Hey thanks. It's been a long journey. Ack - I hear you on the downtime. I've come to learn I am a driver first, and mechanic 3rd lol. The wrenching part is the necessary evil to get my driving jollies.

- Glad to hear I had some kind of influence. I'm definitely learning as I go with this, and forums like this and the other have been the most time important piece for inspiration/information.

Thank you! I'll work on getting some better pics once I'm off of the jack stands. Car just got registered for the street again and I'm itching to go drive it beyond my neighborhood streets.

Welcome! Hope to see you out with NASA again soon. We've got matching colors, haha.

Thanks for that. I hope to get out to an event before the summer break, and not a June event lol. That one sucks with no AC and no carpet to insulate from the exhaust. I still have a list of parts and services needed before I feel confident attending, including understanding this MS tuning thing, but I'm motivated so hope to see you out there soon.

Ha, really the same color?! I bought the car which was already painted when I purchased, PO called it Candy Apple Red. I like the idea... However, the closer I got to the car the more of a hack job I noticed on the PO's wrenching and painting skills. I'd like to do a wrap for it one day, but that's low on the priority list right now.

I took it out for a test drive and grabbed a few pics to share. I'll be starting a build thread here soon too with more pics and details. I can't remember everything that's been modified/done, installed, etc. so I'll work on consolidating it all in that thread, and try to keep it updated moving forward.
