Default Hello from Maine

im JP, and i recently bought a 90 miata with hopes of a V8 swap.... but being that i have been around saabs my entire life, i really like turbocharged vehicles and over the last 6 months i have built a 500bhp saab 9000, and taught myself that FWD just doesnt work for my application.

i have come to realize that a 200hp miata could prolly run a better drag time them my 9000 ever will!

I decided to fab up my own kit starting with a cast manifold from Ebay...
boost will be provided by a mitsubishi Te05 off of a late c900 saab. Great spoolup and very efficient.
I considered a T25, but they are a weak framed turbo by comparison. T3s are just too old.. way too laggy for this application, and a holset wouldnt be so friendly with the powerband in a 1.6.

I intend to run the stock engine management as long as i can. i will do megasquirt if nessesary, but if i can avoid it i would like to!

anyway.
its 4 am and i really should be sleeping....
JP

Where in Maine are you from? I spent part of my life there and hated the long, depressing winters.

You keep doing this and you will do VERY WELL here
Best noob ever
Welcome btw

Oh and unless you intend to blow up your car you will need an engine management aside from "stock"

Saabs rule! I've had a '94 900 v6, and '97 9000 2.3t. Put the 900 in to a tree at 100mph and came out without a scratch (the car did not fare so well), and traded in the 9000 after going through 3 automatic transmissions. Had them both up to 140+mph in my stupid years. That's pretty much Saab for you. Welcome!

oh noes you don't, you'll be putting a wideband in. There are too many variables between engines, injectors, turbos, and fuel systems to trust a tune from one car to another. Start with the MSPNP map and tune with a wideband from there.

errr i suppose.....

Now the question is, do i order a second wideband, or do i pull it out of the saab!

I would try to argue, but i know your right so im not going to bother!

Curly which turbo did you use? the better saabs run a td04, but i know volvo and Subaru both use them aswell, and they are a Great platform.

okay, im sorry to ask this, but which megasquirt kit is reccomended. im not up on the lingo. ive been spoiled with a OEM management of 1993 vintage that is fully tuneable, and helped inspire the 05ish BMW M5 engine management!
thanks a ton!

Hey my name is Brian and I live in cumberland, maine. I have a 1990 miata with a 2554 turbo.

I wrench on it regularly but was wondering if anyone else up here was doing the same.

Drop me a line sometime. Let me know where you are. I need advice sometimes, and local enthusiasts are hard to find.

If you need a hand feel free to get in touch.

Brian
