Default Hello from PA, Questions inside

Hi All! I wanted to introduce myself around these parts since I most likely will be boosting my miata in the next few months and will be asking a ton of questions I'm sure. My name is Dave and I drive a 1994 Miata. Previously I had a modified 96 but I found a great deal on a low mileage garage kept 94 so i bought that, swapped some parts and sold the 96.

Here she is the day I got her

and here she is now!

I have been autocrossing her in STR all season and am a little nervous about being in the SM class but it seems like it's worth it. Anyway, I have been lurking for a while now and look forward to joining the dark side

Are you on Instagram by chance? I feel like I've seen the car on our reel? Either way, great looking car.

Welcome!
If you need advice, direction, or help with your future setup...I might be local enough to talk to. I've helped a bunch of PA/ NJ members on here with their setups/ tuning.
Best advice I can give off the start is, listen to members who have lots of experience, and "do it right the first time". You'll save lots of time, money, and headaches.

I love miatas in black. You might want to ditch the mousetrap though.

I am thinking 200-220 using the FMII with megasquirt. Thats the goal at least. Still considering keeping it NA and building it more for STR

I am torn on what to do. I am thinking of buying everything in this thread for ~2700
https://www.miataturbo.net/miata-par...jectors-81320/

But am thinking maybe I should spend more and get a brand new FM Voodoo II + clutch for ~4k

On 1 hand I save 1300 and get WAY more parts (exhaust, MS, injectors, clutch) but on the other hand for the 1300 I am getting a complete turn key solution with a much better turbo.

I am very new to this and need advice!! I am not sure if I really need the MS solution from the start and the voodoo may be fine to hold me over for a few months until I want to upgrade

IMO, the MS should be your first buy. You can pick up a few HP with a good tune, and you'll have some experience when you go turbo, so you won't blow anything up.

BTW Welcome - I'm not too far away (Berks county)

Don't start off with aids. That kit should get you well on your way. Does that price include MS or is that an add on? Onyxth is spot on about tuning NA first.

Looks like I am not getting the aids no matter what. Its between the used kit or FMII with no electronics + MS, Clutch and rx8 injectors. I think spending 1300 more and getting everything brand new might be worth it.

As for getting MS first, I do agree but I have a tuner I trust that will be able to help with an initial tune and possibly some dyno time. Also this tuner just told me he can get 10% off begi parts, I hate how piece meal the begi kit is though.
