Default Here to learn

Hi, my name is Blair and I am a student at the University of Pittsburgh studying mechanical engineering. I fashion myself a car guy, but the more I learn the more I found out how little I know.

I just bought a 2004 MSM with Big Enchilada kit (supposed one of the early ones that was Blouch modded). I may track the car a little bit but I will primarily use it as a daily driver once all the road salt has been washed away.

The car pulls strong and really needs nothing at the moment but in the future I am worried that something may break and I won't know where to start. I am especially a noob when it comes to the Hydra 2.7 ECU and tuning in general. Right now, my goal is just to understand the car and its engine management systems.

Someday, I might upgrade to Megasquirt just for more user support but that seems rather unnecessary at the moment. My more immediate concern is keeping the car happy.

I will keep on reading the stickies but if you have any particular thread or source that you think would be helpful let me know. Thanks for reading.

Hi Blair, make sure you perform a reroute as a bare minimum before you start tracking the car. I'd feel safe after that, an upgraded radiator (Supermiata or Trackspeed), and an oil cooler.

Also, this forum pretty much specializes in Megasquirt.

Welcome!

Thanks for the tip. I read about the coolant reroute and that is bit a more money than I have to spend right now but I will put that on the list.

I do have an upgraded aluminum radiator but the brand is kind of obscure. Add says CSF but I am not so sure.

Pic above. There is a nasty curb in front of where I park so the front splitter has to go. Unfortunately no pets in the dorm.

Did you buy the car from another member on here? I seem to recall a very similar car being sold here recently... Just curious.
