I know (from personal experience) that a set of aftermarket carbs will really wake that engine up.

Gotta admit, it does look exceptionally clean.

I found some rust! Well not really, its the type you find in a spot that had a scrap with a curb and its just surface rust. I really am shocked at the absolute lack of rust on this car (outside of the bs surface spots that even new cars get). Oh and so far the bolts I've touched have come off with 0 effort, i'm in shock still a bit.

are you going for a rally(e) style look?

It looks good w/out the bumpers.

also before you attempt to wash and wax it, take a look at some of the articles on autogeek about caring for old paint. particularly how to avoid swirls and take care of single stage paint (if it is):

It's been resprayed, like majority of cars still alive at this age. Looks like a great quality single stage job. I'll have a buddy who details and knows his stuff give it a once over after I find some touchup paint for the couple tiny little spots.

Removing bolts on this thing has been so easy so far I'm a bit scared... I feel like its setting me up for failure when I get to real things I need to remove

Now everyone keep an eye out for sweet old school 4x98 pattern wheels for me. I need them to be under 500.... and wider... 13-15" range, prefer smaller though... maybe 14" so I can run the Star Specs....

Do you watch Pawn Stars? There was a very inspiring pink Fiat Spider with eye lashes. . .

Hurm.

There is a repro being sold by one of the fiat parts guys of an older design
Libre Style Wheel 15 x 6 in SUSPENSION

129 a wheel (10% off sale atm)

I'm putting an order in with them tonight for supplies to refresh the car... maybe I should just buy the wheels and get that part over with. Put a 195 Star Spec on it maybe.

Out of curiousity, and I mean this with no disrespect, but... why? What was it that led you to buy a 1970s Fiat Spider?

That engine looks like the 1600. IIRC, the earlier 1600's liked premium fuel.

And I believe spyder is spelled with a "y" when referring to this automobile.

Because each car i've built over the years is something different than the one before. Why build another miata? I built what I wanted and enjoyed it for the time I wanted to.

Fiat Spiders are with an I.

1974 - 1978 they were 1756cc... ~1800.
